@OorWullie Yeh, I was wondering, thanks for fessing. I used to use different names, but decided things were much simpler with just the same name for all my gaming profiles (not that I'll ever achieve that, will I PSN? 😳)

You guys had me at blood and semen.

Well, given that I've played about 150 hours of Rocket League on PC, I couldn't resist picking it up. I am somewhat miffed by how the game handles online splitscreen, though.

See, not only does the game require a second user account (me and the GF had thus far simply been sharing an account), it also requires a second Nintendo account to go online!

Now, it's pretty easy to set up and get going, but here's where things may or may not get messy; will both Nintendo accounts require a subscription to the online service down the line?

I mean, splitscreen Rocket League is a big favourite pastime of me and the GF and works quite decently on the Switch, but if Nintendo screws the proverbial pooch on this and requires two subscriptions I can't see us making the move from PC to Switch for our soccar fix...

^ That’s a good one actually. I hope they wouldn’t be so stupid. It would definitely ruin the game for me.

@Bart_T I don't know the Playstation situation but that did use to be the case on Xbox (every account needed a XBL Gold subscription to play online, guests were the only free ones and those were just temporary profiles). Microsoft changed it later within the past few years so each Gold subscription owner essentially shares their Gold subscription with the other accounts on the same console.

I find it hard to believe they would do that that but it is Nintendo online, so any draconian restrictions are possible. There will be an almighty stink created here and elsewhere on the web if they do though.

@Bart_T @Spanjard @Grumblevolcano @OorWullie Straight from the community manager:

"Hi everyone! We’ve seen your feedback in regards to splitscreen online multiplayer in Rocket League and we're actively working on a solution to what we have identified as a bug. It wasn't our intention to require a Nintendo Account for each splitscreen online player, and we're working on addressing this in a hotfix by the end of the year. We are still investigating, but our goal is to eventually require only one Nintendo Account for splitscreen online play, with additional players joining as Guests. Thank you, all!

And that’s how you quickly reasure people, lol. Very nice to hear about the accounts! I also kinda assumed the resolution thingie was a bug, since now and then it would look great.

Props to the devs!

@Spanjard Yeah the Rocket League Devs have been notoriously good at community management and improving the game based on feedback.

@Nintendoforlife Wot a champion, that is.

Annoyances aside, I hadn't played any Rocket League for a few months before picking up the Switch version yesterday, and man am I rusty. Goofed badly enough to cost my teams a few goals, for certain (I play defense primarily).

After the third or fourth loss I got my groove back and had a decent winning streak and a handful of goals, though. Even managed a couple of hattricks.

I am fearful about trying Hoops again, though... or gulp... Dropshot.

@Bart_T The learning curve is massive in this game. I'm not used to struggling this bad haha.

Yup. In the beginning you can’t have higher ambitions than just hitting the ball. (Hopefully in the right direction)

Where the NL review for this game?

Baldspur

Bart_T

@Nintendoforlife Aye, it is. My personal recommendation; don't be a chaser. Play defensively, keep an eye on where your opponents at and at all times try to remain between the ball and your own goal. Unless you've got a crazy good opportunity, stay on your side of the court and intercept when opportunities present themselves.

Most of the time goals are scored when someone on one team screws up and someone on the other team gets to the ball in time to intercept; only when you're playing real high-level matches does someone manage to steal a goal from a scuffle.

What is the single player mode like? I know this is primarily online matches but was just curious

I'm terrible at finding stuff, where do you go for a normal game against bots? lol

@Joeynator3000 Play -> Play Local -> Exhibition or Season

Exhibition is just playing single matches with and against bots, Season is setting up a tournament with bots.

Oh, I thought that entire section was-...eh, never mind. But yeah it's annoying when the game keeps throwing you against vets and masters and all that. >_>

@Joeynator3000 There is a solution to that, an option in the settings allows you to disable crossplay. Haven't tried it myself but I think that would put you up against less of those.

I heard some of them bought this version just so they could destroy the real newbies...so I don't think that would help much. :c
