Octane

@Bunkerneath Already played it and beat it, I think that was almost two months ago.

Switch release date is still a vague ''2017''.

@Octane Impressions?

Also, I think it comes out in September.

Actually, it has a August 31 release date on Best Buy's site but being the last day just might be a place holder date.

@Spoony_Tech I liked it, but it didn't blow me away. It tried too hard to be the next Journey, and it had no problems with copying some elements from that game. I think it was €30, and the game lasted around 5 or 6 hours. It was a bit on the short side IMO. There are some clever puzzles, but they're rather simple, I believe that some make you think you're solving a puzzle or navigating a level, but it's all linear. So yeah, I liked it, but I also feel there's a lot of potential for a better game. In hindsight, I may have waited for a price drop.

@Octane Well retail is 40$ here so with what you said I will definitely wait for a price drop.

@Spoony_Tech That's pretty steep... For $20 I'd recommend it to anyone. But I have a hard time justifying a $40 price tag.

I believe the PC/PS4/XOne versions were $30 in the US at launch, so maybe the Switch version will be same. But the game already got a price drop it seems, and I believe you should be able to find a copy for $20 if you don't want to wait for the Switch release.

@Octane We're suppose to get some code for the music online as a compensation for the price difference. The game is still suppose to be 30$ on the eshop. The only reason I would consider retail is because I save 20% off the 40$ price almost bringing it to the same price.

@Octane I fully agree. I could see myself buying the game on e-shop for €20, and physical for €30, not for anything more... As a quick search on the internet shows that it will take around 8-10 hours to complete it (if you do not rush it) €30 for eshop (and €40-45 for physical) is just to much... Next to the reviews stating that there is missing a developing plot within the game (nearly everything happens the last 15 minutes). It is a shame, because it looks so pretty...

Octane

@essiw I beat the game in a day or two. Took me around 6-7 hours I believe.

And yeah, the game is light on story. There are some neat puzzles in the game, but it never gets complicated at all. Especially the last few hours are very linear. I think it was a good game in the end, but I think there was a lot of potential that the game never developed further.

Octane

essiw

@Octane wow only 6-7 hours? I like to value my games that at 2 euro's per hour or less. So at least 30 hours of gameplay for €60 euro's like nearly all zelda games do, most even double or triple the playtime (and I am not even considering breath of the wild). I should note that I am not a really quick gamer (not to slow either but I like to explore and get everything) so I can justify Shantae (€18) with 9 hours of gameplay (not sure how long it will take me) for myself, but Rime seems to cost way to much. I hope the price drops quickly at my local retailer (or on the e-shop)...

@essiw There are some collectibles in the game. But I didn't go for 100%, collectibles in a linear game don't mix very well in my opinion. I've never got all the collectibles in an Uncharted game either for the same reason. But I believe you can play the game again to collect anything you've missed on your first playthrough.

Peek-a-boo

For me, finding all of the collectibles made me rate the game from a 7 to an 8.

The ending is both bittersweet and much more heartfelt once you have collected everything, to the point that it elevates your feelings about both the journey you have taken and the message it brings.

I do echo what @Octane says though, in regards to how the game takes inspiration from a handful of other games as opposed to doing its own thing.

It is subtly done in certain areas, whereas in others, it feel less an inspiration and more on the lines of outright copying the very same scenarios from their inspirations. ICO and Journey are two such examples.

If you would like to read my opinion of RiME, then have a looksie here.

@Joytendo22 It's terrible off-screen footage, you're better off watching gameplay from the PC/PS4/Xbox version.

Octane

Octane

@Joytendo22 But... it looks the same. There's isn't a difference as far as I can tell. If you really want to compare the Switch version you need higher quality footage.

SLIGEACH_EIRE

The file size for this game on Switch has been revealed. Strangely it requires 6.9GB of free space. While it requires 4.29 GB on the Xbox Marketplace and 4.25 GB on the Playstation Store. The information is on the game's eShop page.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Didn't I read the Switch version had a couple of Nintendo specific features but they didn't want to go all out with motion controls? Maybe what they did added to the game size. They may have even updated the graphics further.

@DiscoGentleman My hopes would be for a patch but after reading today's article I'm not too confident they will even work on a patch. Seems like they did all they could and will move on.

I do still want it someday but maybe at $10 or less now.

To cancel my pre-order, or not?
I snagged it for $26 on Amazon, but considering the awful performance I'm seeing of it... It's not worth any dollar amount.

If a big part of the game is its visuals, and they're greatly hindered by performance issues, isn't that a critical flaw?
Inviting genuine discussion on this.

In my humble opinion, any game that can't maintain 30FPS is very very very rarely worth purchasing. If I was you I would cancel the order, it might just be too unplayable for enjoyment.

Is it still worth getting the physical just to get the OST? I honestly don't know anymore.....
