I I was trying to play nsmbudx with my little sister but the right joycon sl button does not work and so we are unable to enter two player mode.
The console and the joycons are updated and each other button is working (sr and sync too). Any advice on how to fix this issue without sending the joycon to nintendo for repair? My switch is still under warranty so I don't want to void it by opening the joycon (even though I'm pretty confident I would be able to fix the issue that way).
Just the Joy-cons themselves. Let's say you bought it from GameStop if your in the USA then they would just swap out another Joy-Con for yours and send it back as defective. Otherwise you should contact Nintendo Support and tell them about the Issue and see what resolve they give you.
My R button on my Right Joy-con stopped working recently as well and i've only had my current Switch a little over a month, so yea probably gonna have to call the Big N and use my warranty to get it fixed.
They returned my switch fixed in just 10 days. Now joycons work properly. The only downside is that they scratched my screen like crazy. Luckily I had a screen protection so the switc's screen wasn't scratched. But what if I hadn't put it on? Still I believe it's because of the way mediaworld shipped the console to the repair center, probabily just covered in paper.
@GyroZeppeli And on top of that, I wasn't even joking. I was seriously wondering how you can have the controllers, and you don't even know that they have ZL and ZR buttons...
@ThanosReXXX You have to consider that maybe they don’t have an extra pair of Joy-Cons. In that case, during split Joy-Con play not being able to use the top buttons (SL, SR, and Sync) would be infuriating.

@GyroZeppeli Ah... so he was talking about the tiny shoulder buttons on the side of the JoyCon.
Glad that this was clear from the start...
I was thinking about the 'normal' shoulder buttons. My bad, then.

@AndreaF96 I can honestly say that I have no idea if that even works for me, since I've only had my Switch since December, and seeing as I'm the only one using it, I've never even tried multiplayer like that.
