Did you even read any of the critic Star Fox Zero reviews? Mostly hated on the game. Star Fox Zero was not a good game. Personally I think Star Fox Zero was a bad game for totally different reasons to the critics but the fact still remains.

What I think is when nintendo think "We don't know anymore what do with this franchise. What we thinked is not workind anymore or the people wich knwoed how develop propriely this type of game is not working to us anymore..." In this moment, they pass the franchise to retro work with it.
