It's worrisome, seeing one of my favorite third party publishers struggle. I believe all announced 2019 NIS America games are funded and are ready for release once translations, bug fixes, and production are completed. Lapis x Labyrinth, Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland, Destiny Connect, Alliance Alive HD, and RPG Maker MV. But I'm not sure if the parent company, Nippon Ichi Software, will make it to their possible 2020 releases?

Sega's recent financial reports weren't great either. So I don't believe they would be looking to increase their operational costs by merging with NIS. In which case, perhaps Marvelous/XSEED would be interested instead of Sega? Of course the best outcome would be for Nintendo or Sony to swoop in and save the day.
However, neither company won the bid for Atlus when they were for sale back in 2013, and NIS's catalogue of games isn't as impressive as Atlus's was.

I just wonder if games piracy is the root of the problem of game developer's bankrupcy.
The more people play pirated games, the faster of game developers going bankrupt.
Is that the analogy ?

The piracy reasoning dosen't hold a lot of weight. I'd assume a very small percentage of Switch owners participate in the hacking scene. And an even smaller number of those who do are doing so with the intention of playing pirated software. No, it's just the simple fact of NIS's catalogue of games being too niche and not selling well enough.
I believe Disgaea 1, Disgaea 5, Ys VIII, and Labyrinth of Refrain are the only games that sold well?

NIS America distributed limited editions of select Koei Tecmo games. Nights of Azure 2 and most of the Atelier games. In that sense you're right, Atelier Lulua shouldn't have a funding issue since it's a Koei Tecmo property. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for the other games I mentioned. https://store.nisaeurope.com/collections/nights-of-azure-2-br...

@ReaderRagfish Who wants to inherit debt and financial woes. Easier to let them founder, buy the IPs at auction, then let the staff reform a new debt-free studio to buy.
Sad to hear but NIS has always been niche and often hard to find after first printing. They are one of the reasons I've embraced digital so much for the switch. I do hope that they make their way through. I do enjoy most of their catalog.

This is really a shame. I'd hate to see NIS go; even though I'm not a fan of all their games, I'm appreciative of what they add to the industry. That said, they haven't exactly been on fire with all their games lately. I just played Lapis x Labyrinth for review and it was an absolute slog, to say the least.
Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.
That's not good news at all. They are one of the few companies out there that still really does their own thing. Most "major AAA" studios just follow trends...

I have Disgaea 5 Complete and Penny-Punching Princess which are both pretty fun (but also pretty grindy).
I had my eyes on The Lost Child until reviews bashed it.
I always wanted The Longest 5 Minutes I never found it for less than 40 bucks.
I still wanna get Disgaea 1 Complete and Yomawari, and will pick up some of their other titles as well.
However, neither company won the bid for Atlus when they were for sale back in 2013, and NIS's catalogue of games isn't as impressive as Atlus's was.
How did Sega beat Sony or Nintendo in a bid?
I played the Disgiea 5 demo. I just couldn't get into it. I hate games where the focus is just pointless/endless grinding. And Persona/SMT is my limit as far as weird games go.

Aside from the amount of money offered? I couldn't say for sure. Perhaps Sega also offered to allow Atlus to keep their IP as a part of the purchase? Which is why Atlus still publishes games in their name rather than under the Sega banner. But that's just me speculating.
