Topic: Question about sound while using a monitor.

I just picked up a switch with the release of the Pokemon bundle but there was something I overlooked. I didn't expect or look into whether or not the dock had an optical port. I'm mainly a PC gamer so I only own two monitors that don't have built-in speakers, I use a Logitech surround sound set of speakers so if I were to plug my switch in to play on my monitor I wouldn't be getting any sound. I read that the audio jack on the switch works while docked so I wanted to ask if I were to get an 3.5 aux cable would I be able to plug that into my speakers and get sound through them. Figured I would try asking here before going out and buying a cable that may potentially not work. Worst case I figure I'll have to play with headphones while docked.

Alot depends if your monitor has audio in to play on it and since you didn't give the monitor specs that is anyone guess on the configuration. My Monitor is a ASUS PB278 that has HDMI, DVI, DP inputs with HDMI audio out. So when I use my Dock to my monitor I have a audio out cable to my Speaker setup to hear the audio from the Switch. Or you can plug the audio Switch into your audio setup as well but for me this is my setup:

HDMI from Switch to Monitor
Audio cable from audio output on monitor to Speaker

So when I dock the Switch to my monitor I can use my speaker setup.

@JNFleeb Like @Switchforce I have an ASUS monitor as well. But said monitor has a 3.5mm audio out. So I can connect any speakers that use that connection and get audio that way. The monitor does have a "speaker" too, but it's about the same quality as a Game Boy Advance speaker and begs the question of why they even included it.
