6.0(update) should prime the Switch for theonline services. Any idea on its release?

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

I think we'll see an update late 10th/early 11th, 10 hour eshop maintenance isn't normal and that maintenance takes place 10am - 8pm pacific time on the 10th.

The main thing that makes me doubt this idea is how silent Nintendo has been about the paid online service, 10th September is only a week away.

... They plan to announce the start date via Twitter?! Why not do so via a News release on the Switch it's self? Not everyone follows Twitter religiously.

Noticed they have a fair amount of EshopMaintence going on/planned.

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

Cannot wait for the Switch's Online service a week away. I saved up my eShop funds for this. And I simply cannot wait to enjoy it.

Same here! Ready for some Dr Mario. Played the one in SSB4 the other day in the masterpiece menu.

@HobbitGamer I meant GC/Wii/Maybe Wii U games as maybe an occasional thing, say 1 every 3-6 months-ish while stuff like the NES and SNES (And maybe N64 after they're done marketing the heck out of an N64 Mini) and possible the Gameboy line on a regular basis. And while yeah, we have things like Luigi's Mansion on 3DS, that'll only be something they focus on for a short period of time. Even after remakes of Starfox 64 and Ocarina, it didnt stop Nintendo bringing both to the Wii U VC.

But yeah, I mean if people are looking forward to online NES games fair enough, but the common complaint I've seen is just Nintendo bringing the same old NES games again while at this point, nearly everyone has played and owned to death. The added online will be nice but with NES, you're rather limited by what you can play online multiplayer with.

I'm sure it will grow to be better, but I think it should have launched with a selection of NES and at least some SNES games, not NES or nothing retro wise on day one.

I also think the voice chat thing is a little silly. Why can't I just plug in a mic or headphones? Why do I need to buy an adapter? I can just use the free discord app on my phone and I won't need to use it.

You don't need the adapter. The voice chat works like discord except it is aware of the games you are playing.

The adapter just mixes the game sounds with the chat so you hear both. You can use it in the same way with discord.

Does anyone know if we will be able to download the retro games available, or are they only streaming?

From everything we've seen, I think they need at least a few more weeks to work this out.

I'm slightly annoyed that they still haven't announced the other 10 games. There's just a graphic which carefully only shows the box art for the 10 announced games.

Yeah I’m wondering what those are, too. I’m still getting the sub, despite all the naysaying and grandstanding in the recent article section. Cloud save was never a selling point in my eyes. It was the fact that it’s going to be needed for things like....SSBU. And I get some NES games I’ll dabble with. In 3 years, it’s the cost of one retail game. I’m sure in 3 years there’s a game I could do without

The phraseology for that could have been better. That said, maybe something like the old Nintendo Broadcast Zelda they did in Japan on the SNES?

Last time I heard, apparently traditionally single player games let you switch players or something like that.

So you can play while someone else watches like some sort of personal livestream, or "pass the controller" to the person and watch them play.

For games like Super Mario Bros, sure. But a pure single player game like Zelda?

Well yes. You "pass the controller".

Now the other person is controlling Link while you watch.

Imagine this: it's the 80's, you're 6 years old, you can't kill ten Darknuts in a dungeon room, so you give your cool older brother the controller and he beats them for you.

Now fast forward some decades. You're doing the same thing but over the internet.

And hoping some random person doesn't decide to use up all your consumable resources then kill your character just to be a jerk? Yeah, I can't see that going well.
