@jay81uk
Well...
I applied a Temper Glass onto Switch screen to protect against heat and scratches from the dock.
I don't apply any shell onto my Switch to keep its original form.
I wrapped my Switch with a small towel and put inside a small handbag when i want to bring it outside.
Tempered glass screen protector and the switch messenger bag which comes with a hard case.
I also bought a sheet of sticky felt from hobby craft which I've cut two strips out of and stuck over the plastic guide rails in the dock that were known to cause scratches, it's a bit tight with the screen protector but I personally think it's worth it!
I bought the tempered glass one, but it broke day 1 (I didn't get it quite straight and made the mistake of trying to remove it). Then I got one of those crappy plastic ones that had bubbles on it, plus scratches from using the included tool to remove said bubbles.
Today I removed it and I now have nothing. The way I figured it, the console is already 2 years old, and there are even newer models on the market. If it scratches now, it's not the end of the world. The picture is much better too without a screen protector.
When Nintendo release the Switch 2/Switch Pro in 2020/2021, I hope it comes standard with a tempered glass screen like phones do, and also a dock that doesn't scratch it.
I put a tempered glass screen protector on it day 1, more than a year and a half ago. There's still not one scratch or blemish on my screen, so I'm glad I did as I'm sure the screen itself would have had them by now as it's in and out of the dock a lot.
When I take it out of the house, I have a soft carry case for it that also holds 14 game carts.
I bought a screen protector shortly after getting the Switch (on release), but I didn't put it on perfectly, so it annoyed me and I ended up throwing it in the trash the same day. Haven't bought a screen protector since, but still not a single scratch on the screen and I have put it in and out of the dock quite often.
I just keep it in a hard case (to protect from impact when I carry it around). I hate screen protectors as they muddy the look of the screen and often render it difficult to touch the screen (by forcing you to put more pressure on it). I think many people have been hoodwinked into believing that they need it (unless the people who typically buy them are the type to frequently drop their electronics).
And I have seen the need for such a thing. Ever.
My Switch, like my phone, is completely nekkid otherwise.
@jay81uk I've got one of those screen protectors people have mentioned, the tempered glass kind. Aside from that I just make sure to put it in a case every time I put it in my bag. And a hard case. (soft inside of course) I don't see the point of the flimsy clothe cases you can see in stores - I think it's important to have one of the harder cases so it is protected if there is anything else in the bag. It also protects the buttons and joysticks from getting pushed constantly.
One thing I will give the 3DS over the Switch, the clamshell design naturally protects the screens and most of the buttons/joysticks.
@Silly_G I think you have just only seen the cheap protectors. The one I have makes no visible difference to the picture quality, but it was pricey, like 25 dollars. Tempered glass, not plastic.
Just a glass screen protector and a case for me. Every new piece of tech I buy gets a screen protector the second I take it out of the box. I believe I stared that habit back when I got my DSi.
