Topic: Press L and R On Controller pop up during game

So yeah, the annoying Press L and R on the Controller screen popped up on me during some online matches on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe last night. This isn't the first time I've had that happen as this pop up also kept occurring shortly after purchasing the console last summer. Shortly thereafter, a firmware update eliminated that issue and all's been well for the past year until it suddenly reappeared out of nowhere yesterday. I think it might be a controller problem because I was able to go through the menus without any issues. At this point, I'm not sure whether to call the Nintendo Canada number and tell them about it or just buy another pair of JoyCons

Portable/handheld mode, right? I had some issues with this as well, though I mostly play on TV. Like, I think one of joycons disconnects from the system and has issues reconnecting or something...

Yes, this is portable/handheld mode. I did update the controllers earlier, so we'll see what happens

I did press the + button yesterday before going into a session, so that probably caused it

Quick update: I was able to get in about an hour of Mario Kart without that pop up, so it was likely a glitch

Well, it happened again and I didn't even press the + button this time

After speaking with a Nintendo customer service agent on the phone for 40 minutes this morning, I now have to send in my JoyCons for repairs

Do you know how long it takes to email the instructions for sending the product for repair? I called them around 9 this morning, finished that call around 9:40 and haven't gotten an email from them yet

My email's easy to type out. I won't give it here for security reasons, but I'm unsure if they send the email while on the phone. I might call them again later, though. Also, I don't think there's a direct number to bypass the menu

Quick update: I got the Joy Cons back around the end of last month, and they were working well when I first got them back, but now they're doing the same thing again. At this point, I'm just going to buy a new pair as I don't feel like going through this process again

Quick question...if you push up from the bottom of the controllers, do both stay locked, or does one or both pop loose so you can slide them off? If one doesn't stay locked, it is probably the problem. I have that very problem on the right joy con on 3 switches in my household. I also get the press L/R button message or "Please connect controller" pop-up (in Diablo2...very annoying).

you probably push one of the joycons up on the joycon rails without noticing which would disconnect the controller and pull up the Land R screen happens sometimes for me in New Horizons
