@Grandpa_Pixel it is still behind Ocarina of Time on Metacritic though.
Actually I wondered about that and started doing some digging. Ocarina of Time's profile isn't complete. It is missing some big media reviews and minor ones when compared to Breath of the Wild (it only had 22 reviews compared to BotW's 37+). So I did some research and it usually lies (without or with minor sites) 94-97. Which if you look at it that way, Ocarina of Time was either dethroned a long time ago or has just been dethroned.
That's the issue of metacritic. It is only as reliable as those who populate the site with reviews.
It looks like I was wrong by a couple of points (thought Zelda would score a 94 or 95), but I'm extremely happy about that actually! Nintendo really outdid themselves with BOTW, although I wonder how long this record breaking 98 will stay. Scores on Metacritic tend to drop by a couple of points after the first day of reviews but again, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Sort of off-topic but on the subject of Metacritic, if Nier: Automata's early review scores are to be believed this game will score solid 8.5-9's across the board. Game currently has a 93 on there although that will probably drop soon enough. Still, I'm happy the game is getting praised! Platinum is a great developer.
So early reviews for BOTW are looking EXTREMELY well (currently at a 98) and 1,2- Switch is doing horrible (Currently at 61, but not too many reviews yet. Even less than I thought it would get)
For the record, the lowest score for BotW is currently Eurogamer Italy's (9). I just skimmed through it, and the only real issue they seem to be criticising is the combat - more specifically, weapons and how the lock-on is implemented. They say that because weapons break, you may end up having to fight strong enemies without good ones - and that lock-on unlocks by itself after a few hits, making combat against faster enemies frustrating. They also mention that the game is not "technically current" and that it doesn't use the Switch unique features, but they don't seem to make a big deal out of it.
I haven't played the game - I'm just translating what I read.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

It's really surprising how many 10/10's BotW is getting. I was honestly expecting to be kind of disappointed, but it sounds like it's gonna live up to the hype.
Time to asses the damage. What I predicted vs. reality
Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild - 93 [98] (5 points under)
Super Bomberman R - 72/?
1,2 Switch - 62 [61] (1 point over)
Fast RMX - 78/?
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - 89/?
I am Setsuna - 72/?
Snipperclips - 85/?
So that's currently an average of 3 points off, though only based on two games. I should have been more ambitious with Zelda (I mean, I gave it the same at Skyward Sword), but I'm pretty proud of the 1-2-Switch attempt (also interesting to note that NL's review was lower than average, as this is the type of game where some claims of bias have been leveraged). Still waiting for Snipperclips and Bomberman!
I'm super surprised by this. For better or worse, it's felt like it's become a bit more difficult to be universally praised for a game the past couple of years or so. At least to such a degree. And usually the scores will be down by the end.
Even Bayonetta 2 and Bloodbourne and Undertale had some complaints from a few people. Even the worst reviews for this say it is an amazing game. Horizon Zero Dawn was the best open world game in a year...for a week. (but hey it still seems vastly better than another Killzone game...)
I love how I see people so happy that IGN gave Breath of the Wild a 10/10 when they gave Skyward Sword the same score. You can't put that much trust in review scores lol
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

The consensus among reviewers on BotW is insane.. 61 critics and it is still at 98/100 on MetaCritic. There hasn't been a game receiving that kind of universal praise in over nine years (GTA).
I expected Zelda to be good, but not 'game of the decade' good. Might have to purchase a Switch sooner than expected.
Though I love skyward sword, I think people are putting too much emphasis on the scores. I suspect a dip on opinion in about half a year from the community.
