Topic: Potentially Valuable Switch Games

Even though the Switch is still new, I know some of us collect for the Switch. As we all know, some games have the potential for increasing in value over time. I want to make this thread to talk about games that might go up in price and why. This isn't 100%, so don't take it as gospel. I also want to omit certain games. Online exclusives, LRG style games...we already know they will go up in value. I also want to avoid CE/LE of a game...again, those will go up in value, plus not everyone collects those versions.

1) Nicalis games (NA releases)
2) Troll and I (NA release)
3) Lumo (NA release)
4) MUSYNX (NA release)
5) Gear Club Unlimited (NA release, GameStop Exclusive)
6) Party Planet (NA release, GameStop Exclusive)
7) Island Flight Simulator (UK release)

NIS America limited editions, they usually don’t restock their limited edition games so they can become rather hard to get.

Edit: just saw you wanted to avoid collectors edition games. My bad

Have you ever tried Portal Knights ?
It will be a Blast once the console version (Switch, PS4 & Xbox1 version) got a Major Update 1.5.0 with Creative Mode.
You will be like it.

Lumo - People feel Poi went under the radar due to SMO, yet I never see anyone talk about Lumo. It came and went and I feel people avoided this one. Perhaps I'm wrong, but Lumo has this vibe to me that it'll be one to look out for years to come. Maybe it sold decent, I don't know, but I feel it definitely went under the radar for people.

Lumo, and Poi, can both be bought in the UK at fairly attractive (sub-£20) prices from Argos, and that's been the case for quite some time. I can't see games that sit for a long time at the budget end of the scale suddenly becoming valuable.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

@gcunit
That's why I wanted to make this topic. From my personal experience in NA, there are five gaming stores in one city near me. These two are harder to come by. Granted that's just MY experience. Also perhaps the games are selling different in the UK vs NA?

It's interesting you say that to be honest. Just goes to show how games do in different regions! You may be correct, but only time will tell. Also note that there have been systems or add on that were clearanced out that are now expensive. Again, who knows!

@dharmajones93
You have a point. I'm glad you said that cause Party Planet is a GameStop exclusive here in NA I think. As far as I know that didn't go well and people avoided it. Perhaps that's another one?

@Anti-Matter
I have. I'm not too big in to games like that. I did enjoy it more than DQB for the short time I played both, however.

@The_Legend77 Bought Lumo three weeks ago for £21 from amazon, you can tell it's an early Switch game, but reminded me of Head over Heals on C64 so much i had to get it.
Only took me 5 hours to complete, so probably alot of people didnt buy it because of the shortness of it

I AM ERROR

I would say, MUSYNX should definitely be added (one of the very games that spawned this conversation). In fact, what I hadn't known up until yesterday was MUSYNX could find itself in the Binding of Isaac situation (with two print covers) - or even MORE rare, if that second wave of games never actually materializes!!

This was the article I'm talking about:
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/04/rhythm-action_game_m...

I live about 15-20 minutes outside NYC. Right now, there is exactly one GameStop left in my area that has a copy - you cannot order this online, nor is it available at Amazon or BestBuy. The only other place that offers this game is play-asia right now - but considering the vanishing availability at these common US stores, I find it a little hard to believe play-asia could possible have more than a handful (if any, at all)).

Perhaps that second wave with the alternate cover is coming - but maybe it isn't. And if it does NOT come, those that have managed to secure any copy at all of this game, will surely be able to mark this one down as valuable!

It's fair to assume anything from smaller publishers (LRG, SRG, Play Asia, Strictly Limited Games, Hard Copy, Special Reserve, GameFairy io, etc) that have print runs of 15k or less, will be the most expensive and sought after games going forward. Even something like the Zelda BotW Master Edition won't hold the same kind of value as the Bayonetta Non-stop Climax Edition, simply due to the fact that Zelda BotW has millions of copies sitting on store shelves. While the physical version of Bayonetta 1 is limited to the Climax Edition, of which...only roughly 15k copies exist worldwide.

@Magician , true Bayonetta Climax was one of those off time that if you got one your lucky, which I got and was glad and now it is sold at outrageous prices. But let's keep the discussion to Standard games and the small publishers are in the class of Collectors Edition and not everyone can get them. CE/SE/LE will always garner price hikes that the nature of those items-enough said. The Valuable ones are the most played or reviewed by General Gamers and Hardcore Gamers that will tell you what to look for and which has potential for Game Value.

What do you all think of the Aqua Moto and Snow Moto racing games? Potential rise down the road? For that matter, what about the Riding Stable game coming up? One of the Wiis harder to find games is a horse game of all things.

Depending on how they do I'm also looking at Legend of Kay, Tennis World Tour and Hunting Simulator. Granted I'm already jumping the gun, but just a few extra games I wanted opinions on.

Print runs dominate future value, in any hobby. For example, Mario Odyssey is a better game than Legend of Kay. However, due to how amazing Mario Odyssey is, there are ten million+ copies of that game is existence. So it's fair to assume, twenty years from now, Legend of Kay will command a higher asking price among collectors and eBay flippers.

Aqua Moto and Snow Moto? Keep those games sealed. They're such awful games that I doubt they'll get a second print run. The same could be said about several other games. Troll and I, Hello Kitty Kruisers, Hello Neighbor, etc.

This is the very reason, for the existence of this thread. Identifying those games that won't get a second print run, before they are out of stock and impossible to find. I've just noticed that Troll & I is no longer readily available - so mark that tick-box for me as "happy I wasted the money when I did", LOL!!

...the question that we should be focused on, is which of the games that are out (or coming out) are similar to this?

I think @The_Legend77 - you should be maintaining a running list in your OP, of titles that are mentioned in here. It would be nice to have one place to track them all...

Personally, I look at a combination of who the developer is and whom is doing the publishing. For example, if the publisher is Square-Enix or Ubisoft, you can safely assume the game will be good (or great) and therefore will sell well and receive multiple print runs. However, games from AA publishing companies (THQ Nordic, Rising Star Games, Merge Games, Microids, etc) will invariably publish games with mixed reviews. Games less likely to receive multiple print runs, selling somewhere between 50k-250k copies worldwide, depending on the metacritic score for each game.

Although, I'm still not sure how a publisher like BigBen managed to swindle distributors into purchasing 500k copies of World Tennis Tour, considering their track record of sub-par reviewed games in the past.

People clearly want Hello Kitty Kruisers due to being able to drive in the kitty kar, also because North American Wii U copies somehow became a holy grail for the Wii U.

I made Sheldon & Mr. Randoms back on Flipnote Hatena, now i'm a kangaroo mod that has a funko pop collection!

I'm not keen politics since that stuff is spooky, I'd rather watch SpongeBob over Fox News anyways!

On topic, but as an aside. I used to play Magic the Gathering back in the day. I used to own a complete unlimited set. I remember walking into a Shinders (an outlet for comic books, sports cards, collectible card games, etc) and seeing a beta Black Lotus on sale for $100. I entreat anyone to go on eBay and see the asking price for a Black Lotus these days. You'll be shocked.

My point is, print runs determine future value.

Every Hello Kitty games that i knew and have ever played are Cheap and Fairly Shovelware. There were some Hello Kitty games with Very Annoying Narrator voices during gameplay. It Turned Me Off to buy those Hello Kitty games despite of their cuteness.
