ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD. Think I might be the only person on my friends list of over 200 people approx. that doesn't have this game ☺️

From the couple of previous ZELDA games I have bought and never finished (TWILIGHT PRINCESS, PHANTOM HOUR GLASS) I'm just not ready to pay £50 for an open ended, open world game set in a universe I am yet to be immersed in. The time sink and non-linear aspect are what scare me off most. I feel I'd buy it and then never get very far into it despite it being hailed as the greatest video game ever.

Suspect the only way I'll play it now is if either my son suddenly develops a hankering to play a ZELDA game or I receive the game as a surprise gift.

Call me crazy, but there's not a single Nintendo IP at this point in time that interests me.
Not Mario, not Zelda, not Metroid,... not anything.
The latest IP's from Nintendo like Arms and Splatoon didn't do anything for me either.
I LOVE the Switch, but I'm still waiting for that brand new Nintendo IP that makes me go gaga. All I've been playing so far on my favorite system are quality Indie titles like Owlboy and Celeste.
I'm holding my breath for Retro Studios to blow me away this E3.

@SleepyOtus Crazy. (Hey you asked for it!)

Seriously, if you're not into Nintendo IPs, that's fine, but I don't think they're going to come up with anything that impresses you. There's a certain style to their offerings and IPs, and if none of them have caught your interest, I doubt any ever will. At least they've won some third party support this time to make the console worth owning....maybe that's the best thing anyone can say about Switch: You actively don't like Nintendo games, but it's still your favorite console!

@SleepyOtus Look into Xenoblade and Bayonetta, some of the most non-Nintendo Nintendo games out there.

Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill

I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!

You're absolutely right.

I tried both of them and both were way too over the top for my tastes.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild, after everything is said and done. I had hella fun with it at first, but after beating it, I was left very disappointed in; the lack of music, story, memorable characters, combat, breakable weapons (mostly the Champion's weapons, Master Sword and Hylian Shield), enemy variety, quests/intractable NPC's with purpose, mini-bosses, the final boss, and them pushing Zelda x Link instead of Mipha x Link.

I love BotW but I’m with you on the breakable weapons part. Worst idea ever. What the hell were they thinking? -_-

Monster Hunter, no matter how immersed I can get its a grind fest true and true. I don't understand the reason for the video game equivalent of doing my taxes but hey whatever floats the communities boat.

I try and keep my mind open otherwise, usually if a game doesn't interest me its just a 1:1 sequel of a game I've already played (Halo, Farcry, New Mario Bros). In general if its a new ip or a re-imagining I'm automatically more interested.

People might think I'm childish for my picture, and I am.
Favorite games: Super Mario Odyssey, Super Metroid, Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, and Sonic Generations
If you like Kirby, then you are a person I can trust.

Previous post was more about genres so will try actual series this time:

GTA: Yeah just can't do it, I can't be a criminal it makes me hate myself and as its become more realistic I can't even find it amusing.

FIFA: Football without the exercise or team drinking so what's the bleeding point?

Assassins Creed: Okay haven't actually played much but the number of titles and convoluted storyline just made me not want to bother.

Little Big Planet: After playing so much Mario the lack of a run button really made it feel strange to play.

Last of Us: Frustrating, dull, annoying and a cast that had me almost praying for World War III. Only bought it full price to give the preorder phone case to a girl.

@Anti-Matter See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procedural_generation

In gaming terms - it usually means that content is randomly generated and not pre-designed.

While I confess that I've never played a game of the sort, I agree that the concept really doesn't appeal to me. I never got the No Man's Sky hype, for example.

I know this probably won't be a popular opinion but I don't understand why Smash Bros is so popular. It's a nice idea to combine lot of different series but the games are just SO boring. There are so many other fighting games that have much better controls and are much more enjoyable in my opinion.

Fifa also doesn't interest me but I also have no interest in the source material so that isn't suprising

I think this is where you'll find the disagreement. It's quite an unpopular opinion to dislike the controls and core gameplay of Smash Bros.

Personally I quite enjoy the occassional fighter, but I much prefer the free-roaming aspects of Smash to the style of traditional 2D and 3D fighters.

Ultimately Smash Bros has "worse" controls because it's not trying to be like other fighters, but rather it mixes platformers with fighting games and simplifies the controls. In that aspect, it's the best in its class.

It's perfectly ok to not like something, but comparing Smash to other fighting games is sort of like a "well, what did you expect" sort of deal, if you get what I mean.

@EvilLucario Absolutely. I mean, it's certainly a game where you fight people, but it's got as much in common with platformers and... I don't know - baseball games? - as it does with other fighting games.

And okay baseball is probably off the mark, but the heavily emphasis on projectiles (items, weapons, and even your opponents themselves) puts in basically into its own genre. And the whole aerial element also sets it apart. If it controlled anything like other fighters, most of the stage would be wasted.

Pokemon and Animal Crossing...I have zero intrest in those francishes

I read everyone's post to get some ideas.

Splatoon - I tried it for a good while but it gives me anxiety I think... I mean I don't know what else this feeling could be. I guess I just don't like competitive games in general. At least with Rocket League I don't feel like crap when we loose as everyone is active and a goal against us feels like it hurts the team rather than just me. Then again then I don't really like shooters either. At least in was in third person, which let me try the game out. First person games give me motion sickness.

Metroid Prime - FPS, motion sickness, getting lost easily.

Donkey Kong Country - I don't know I just don't like them. I think the recent ones were better than the SNES trilogy though. Doesn't help that I think Donkey Kong is a buffoon.

Binding of Issac - Same reasons as mentioned here before.

Octopath Traveller/Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - I just don't care... and it seems I don't care for most JRPGs either. I think I got burned out on SNES RPGs. I just don't feel like putting so much time towards these games considering how long they can get. The only RPGs I care about now are Pokemon, Yokai Watch and Dragon Quest. The writing/story is also usually really generic anime as heck. I do like Pyra and the other two girls though so I wouldn't mind seeing her in Smash.

Fire Emblem - I guess this would go towards the same reasons as above but the dating sim aspects interest me a bit as well as the combat. I just never really tried to stick to playing any of the games although I have attempted to play a couple. Willing to give the new game a chance if it looks cool.

Minecraft - I don't have the patience to play it and now that Dragon Quest Builders is a thing I rather play that.

Celeste/Super Meat Bag - I just don't like these types of platformers. I find them more frustrating than fun.

Unrelated but when it comes to Pokemon I never had to grind. Unless you know for some reason I needed to have a specific Pokemon at a specific level for trading or... something...

On that note...I never really understood Dragon Quest. I really tried to like DQ4 and 6, but the games felt so...generic. Not a feature in them stood out - easily the two most dull RPGs I've ever played. DQ9 was a little better for the party recruitment feature. Maybe the recent ones might be more to my liking
