Hello
My switch has been sent back after repair but it’s now not recognising the left joy con. When we switch on there is a image of the console and the two joy cons being slid in either side, as though it’s asking us to but in the console (which they are) please help. My sons waited weeks for this to come back and he’s so upset it’s still not working.

@Dancinghobnob Try syncing the Joy-con again. If that fails, reboot the console and sync Joy-con. If that fails, hold down power button for 12 seconds, power off console and sync Joy-con. If that fails then really not sure what else you can do but call Nintendo.

Good luck!

Could it be a battery issue perhaps?
I'd also recommend letting the system charge with the joy cons connecting and check the menu if you can see the joy con charging.

Apologies if you have already tried this (or if it's what @OorWullie meant by syncing), but if you look on the side of the joy-con that slides into the side of the Switch, there is a small, round black button.

Press and hold this for several seconds - it always works for me when the Switch fails to 'see' a joy-con.
