Topic: Overactive Hat Throwing Issue

The only way I can describe the issue I am having is “Overactive Hat Throwing.” In Super Mario Odyssey Mario seems to throw his hat over and over again at random times without any input from me. It usually happens in waves and then subsides for a little while only to come right back every few minutes. I have no idea what is causing this. I thought it was an issue with my joycon but they seem to work just fine with any other motion control games I try (Splatoon 2 and Zelda BOTW). In the Mario Odyssey game settings I turned the motion sensitivity all the way down, deactivated motion controls, re calibrated the joycon, disconnected and reconnected the joycon, updated the joycon, completely powered down my Switch and rebooted it but none of this has worked. At this point I am at wits end with this issue. Does anyone have any idea of what I should do?

Here’s a link to a video showing the issue in action: https://youtu.be/LzeYDlsjwfM

Thanks in advance for any suggestions as to what the problem might be!

I get the feeling it's a problem with your right joy-cons Y button. Maybe bring it into a game store or something and get it checked out?

Thanks for the suggestion! Considering I got my console around the system’s launch time, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an underlying Joy-Con issue! @Scrummer

In addition to Scrummer's solution and just for the sake of pushing this conversation forward, I have an untested theory pertaining to wireless interference. I have my Nintendo Switch set up on a tv console that also has a wireless speaker and a plant terrarium next to it. I read that other wireless devices and aquariums could potentially have an affect on the connectivity of the Joy-Con. If I move those items away from the switch set up, maybe the issue will resolve? It's a long shot but maybe it will work! I will have to test this theory this evening.

[Update on my wireless interference theory]
This checks out! I didn’t think that it was going to make a difference, but moving my docked Switch away from my wireless speaker made a huge difference! When I play Odyssey the issue I had where he would throw his hat randomly is no longer an issue!
