Topic: NX what?

I wish ppl would cut the NX talk until there are facts. All the hype is from kids wishing for the next ultrakiller console that should sit under the christmas tree preferably this year, nothing more. They're so out of touch and timing.
I'm tired of hearing "this game and that game should appear on NX launch" when there's still a Wii U in the middle of its life and no one knows if the NX will actually be good. It's nothing but a project name. Everyone's own little dream.

Wii U still has 2 years left, and Nintendo is going to announce plenty for it in the coming months. Fire Emblem, Zelda, Pokken, Project Robot/Guard, Lost Reavers, Pikmin 4, just for the beginning of 2016.

Two of my friends just bought a Wii U for Zelda and Xenoblade. But they also buy and play other Wii U games like Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Need for Speed Most Wanted U and are looking forward to the next Wii U games, not the next Nintendo machine.

Nintendo should not alienate their loyal fans with a home console that cannot stand up at least 5 years. The Wii U has to slog through this period from an outside perspective, but the 15 million players on the inside don't really need the next thing.

Yes, the Wii U is not as succesful as the Wii, but it's not because of marketing or millions of stupids jealously badmouthing it.
I think it's because of two things:
1. It needs extra resources to create games for it. It's not as simple as to port it from A to B (Sony to Microsoft) with minimal effort. There's lots of new hardware knowledge involved for the first time ever (The difference between PS4 and X1 is minimal in comparison.) That's a problem for many multiplatform developers.
2. The Wii U is a very creative console and the controller (despite its almost flawless design) is the most complex controller ever (for a video game console) unlike the Wii and the Wiimote which was easy and simple to use for everyone, even for the ones who never played before.

I'm a proud Wii U owner too and sometimes.... I really wished Nintendo would've said nothing about the NX. I wish they were pouring all their heart into the Wii U's last years. Wii U deserves so much better but at the same time... I totally understand their reasoning of jumping to the NX. Lack of 3rd party games and other key features really hurts.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

...It's almost time for a new console, so...I see no problem.

If they wouldn't talk about it, people would think that Nintendo was giving up on dedicated games systems and start running with the meme of Nintendo games will be coming out on other systems.

People were well and truly running with the theory that Nintendo were going third party. The announcement that they were going to start making mobile games would have just "confirmed" that theory in the minds of many. Remember, a lot of the "wisdom" about what Nintendo is doing is stirred up in forums where people only really get snippets of information. Good sounding theories, however non-factual they are, spread like wildfire. Unless some other theory comes out to directly challenge it.

I think Nintendo is far happier with everyone (including investors) talking about what hardware they'll release next. Whatever their plans are. Because as long as people are doing that they're not writing them off entirely. I'd also add that despite all the theorising the Wii U is still selling just as well as it did last year. Not necessarily impressive but at least the numbers aren't going down dramatically.

Yeah, I do think it's a good idea to remind ourselves that the only things we actually know about the NX is that exists, is codenamed NX, and that they will talk about it more next year. Oh, and that the new membership service will encompass it. That's it.

Past that, all we can do is speculate. One thing though that is evident is that Nintendo's internal game development for BOTH Wii U and 3DS is shrinking, more so for the 3DS than the Wii U despite popular belief. Looking at the upcoming lineups for both system, these are all that are left as far as internally developed games go:

Wii U: Star Fox Zero, Animal Crossing amiibo Festival, SMTxFE, and Zelda. (Xenoblade already released in Japan and Yoshi in Japan & Europe, while Super Mario Maker is finished and Mario Tennis is externally developed)

3DS: Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash and Zelda Triforce Heroes. (Happy Home Designer and Fates are out in Japan already, while Fed Force and Paper Jam are externally developed).

???: Pikmin 4

So yeah, both systems appear to be on their last legs as far as internally developed 1st party games go. The 3DS currently doesn't have any scheduled for 2016. That being said, as far as North America and Europe go, the 3DS could be stretched out to Spring 2017 on localisations alone. Japan? Just through 2016, with a more barren schedule too (half expecting a Monster Hunter X Ultimate announced for Fall 2016 in Japan, Spring 2017 in NA/Europe).

Nintendo will tell us about the NX when they want too, Making theories and speculations about the NX is fun really but I am satisfied with my 3Ds and wii U with FE:IF, SMT X FE and Xenoblade coming this and next year I can wait 2 more years for the NX.

These are I think the safest speculations, whatever you think the NX is:
1. Nintendo are still committed to releasing dedicated gaming hardware
2. Nintendo won't release any new hardware until after the NX unveiling, which will probably be at E3 2016
3. You'd assume that both the 3DS and the Wii U would be replaced before the end of 2018
4. Nintendo are going to make your NNID mean more than it currently does

Well they have to announced something sooner or later, and if it seems bug you just ignore it, people are pretty much going speculate on the NX until it's announced,

I'd love to see Wii U get another 3 years worth of major nintendo support, but it simply isn't realistic. Wii U simply isn't going to last as long as we want it to. it's successor will be out by end of 2017 and 2016 is probably the last year of major titles for both 3DS and Wii U. Accept it.

@IceClimbers: I don't think the internal game development is slowing down. E3 didn't cover a lot of 2016 titles, however that doesn't mean there are none in development. It's likely that Nintendo wants to keep their games a secret until just before release, most likely to avoid massive delays, like what happened with Zelda U.

EAD 1 is probably working on the next Mario Kart game, but they don't develop any other games (other than Nintendogs, which I doubt we'll see again soon). EAD 2 is working both Animal Crossing games and the Splatoon updates. EAD 3 is still working on Zelda U. EAD 4 just finished Super Mario Maker and is working on Pikmin 4. EAD 5 is working on Star Fox, Project Guard and Project Giant Robot. I'm not sure what the two Tokyo based development teams are working on, but absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Apart from the Zelda and Mario Kart teams, a lot of handheld games are usually done by other subsidiaries, so the absence of 3DS titles doesn't mean a lot either.
