New to the community, but i've been following and reading the site for years now. Here are my thoughts on the console.
Looks cool and convenient as I'm more of a handheld gamer myself, just some things I'd like to know.
Will 3ds be playable on the NS?
Will Wii U account info stay stuck on the console or transfer over?
With Wii U becoming obsolete with NS recieving the newer games coming out, is it worth even having around?
I want to sell my 3DS and my Wii U if the NS can carry over at least the digital downloads of both consoles.
If not I'd like to keep the 3DS and get rid of the Wii U.
I like the concept of play wherever whenever, but..I feel ur screwed if u lose one of the controller parts..so responsibility is a major part of NS.
Hope I didn't break any rules with my post, apologies.
Well if Nintendo wanted to keep the DS family around then they would have to fight with their own console for the market share. I think that they're not admiting it just yet, but I don't see another handheld anytime soon.
Remember them saying that DS is a third pillar and not a replacement for the GB
Honestly I can accept the single screen as long as every Nintendo game is available on the Switch - no more handheld/home console division.
Nintendo Switch is definitely replacing Wii U. My guess is it's possible Switch will also replace the 3DS as it doubles as a handheld and a console so only one platform to develop for really helps everyone out. But it's always possible we will get a totally seperate 3DS successor but my money's on Switch being the only Nintendo system this generation.
The fact is that 3DS is not going away any time soon. Nintendo will be releasing new software for it through 2017 and probably beyond that.
My guess is that Nintendo will eventually release a smaller (and cheaper) form factor for the Switch that is intended to be the 3DS replacement. Perhaps that will coincide with the release of the first big Pokemon game on the platform or something.
It will replace the WiiU for now and then replace the 3DS once its life is over. Then Nintendo can make Switch-Home that will be a more powerful version of it but without handheld functions.
It certainly looks like it is being positioned to replaced both WiiU and 3DS as Nintendo's primary console. And combining their home and mobile platforms is a very smart move for Nintendo and will have direct positive results on their business.
However I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to support 2DS and/or introduce a new Hand-held similar to the 2DS (it would have to play 3DS games) available at a fairly low price price point, aimed at that "toy" market and young children.

Splitting their platform into 2 seperate pieces again would make no sense for Nintendo.
@Canadian_Ronin
They can make the home console but will they make it is another question. Just as they said with the DS not replacing GBA, this might turn out to be a success and replace their all consoles. I certainly hope so, because having all Nintendo's output available on one platform would be the best thing ever.
I can see Nintendo introducing a scaled down, portable only Switch for a lower price point a la 2DS to the 3DS. For example, it can play Switch games, but it wouldn't be dockable, wouldn't have detachable Joy Con, etc. But I think the days of having a dedicated handheld line of systems is done.
Replacing the Wii U? That seems to be the case since the system is suffering a slow death.
Replacing the 3DS line? I hope not , there still seems to be a lot of potential in a dual screen experience (plus, the NS has now been confirmed as single screen only). It's possible, but we know that the 3DS at least has releases lined up for 2017, and at this time it's more of a budget option (especially the 2DS).
It seems incredibly unlikely that there'll be another handheld after the 3DS. There's such an incentive for them to pool all of their development budgets for just the 1 platform, that's what I took the Switch as being.
When you think that we'll essentially be able to get the number of games made for the 3DS + the number made for the Wii U, more or less, it should be pretty awesome.
The 3DS will keep going for another year or so just like GBA did in the DS days. By the time Nintendo has already a sizeable userbase on the Switch and are able to do a price drop, the 3DS will be switched off.
The Switch is Nintendo's equivalent to Universal Windows Platform from Microsoft, they won't have another dedicated handheld after it as there are evident gains in software output to this method. They might make a smaller screen Switch, though for those worried that it won't fit on your jeans' pocket.
