So in an interview with Aonuma (reported here: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/07/zelda_breath_of_the_... he mentioned that Nintendo is encouraging him to create a new IP. He has shared that he has an idea for an IP where you play as a thief. Would you like to see this IP come to fruition? What do you think it could be like?
Given that the concept is that you play as a thief, it's likely that stealth would be a major gameplay element. That would be interesting considering that Nintendo has (as far as I can remember), not really done much in the stealth genre. Zelda itself has done a couple of stealth sections, but beyond that I don't think they've ever made a stealth game. So maybe Aonuma wants to expand on those sections with a new IP. I'd be interested in seeing where he could go with this.
Given Nintendo's habit for targeting 'family' customers, I'd expect a game where the main character is an animal and it plays on some stealing behaviour observed in nature (e.g. Fantastic Mr. Fox - probably my favourite childhood book, though can't see Nintendo going for a fox 'cos of Star Fox).

Well, the first game Aonuma directed was Marvelous for the Super Famicom, a mix between a action adventure game and point 'n click. I'd love to see more creative stuff like that.

I hope that an outcome of the NX is that with just one system to develop for that Nintendo spend a bit more time coming up with new franchises rather than just releasing iterations of old franchises.
And yes, I think using the mechanics in BotW such as the stealth one but properly developing it to make a whole game based around the premise is a good way of reusing assets to maximise content.
@Pahvi Magpie was the first 'thief' that came to my mind, but you don't see many birds as the main character in a game, so I'm doubtful a magpie would ever win through in the auditions. I'm not familiar with Sly Raccoon - I'll look it up, thanks.
