Topic: Nintendo Switch getting Hot

My Switch is getting really hot from just playing it for maybe a couple of hours in docked mode even the joycons that where attached to the Switch were really hot also, I was just wondering is this normal for the Nintendo Switch when playing it in Docked mode or is this something to be worried about?

My Switch is also getting warm when i put on the table for several minutes. But don't worry. That's still Normal. Actually, if you charged in Handheld Mode & Put in Sleep Mode, the Switch will get cooler. For Docked Mode, it's Normal when your Switch get warmer after several hours gameplay. Just give more Air ventilation to cooling your Switch.

If in doubt, whatever the subject, worry about it. Worrying should be your default activity in life, I hear it's very rewarding.

Well it does get hot but then again no one on here can see where it is placed or if there is proper room ventilation to keep the air flow moving in the room. This also goes to causing the thermal effect on any system. Confined spaced with lack of proper ventilation doesn't help any system that needs proper air cooling.

Mine has gotten pretty hot too, but never enough to where the joy-cons are getting hot as well. Just how hot are we talking about with yours?

Just something in this story doesn't quite add up even when I played BoTW in handheld I could feel the temp but not point the Joy-Cons were melting point. Even when Docked with BoTW in intensive 6-8 hours sessions it was hot but no Chernobyl meltdown. So unless there is something misleading this is becoming more like Trolling posting.

Mine cracked from heat. Used pretty much solely docked, went to take it out of the dock for the 1st time in months, cried for a while, then realised it was as good an excuse as any to get an atomic purple backplate. Every cloud.....

Yes obviously because your Switch doesn't get hot must mean that No one else's Switch should be getting really hot when playing in docked mode, and your the only one talking about anything melting, some need's to check there own attitude when call someone else's post is just trolling. I play mine in mostly docked mode with a pro controller in a well vented area it is setting on top of my entertainment center, and I keep the joycon's hooked to the Switch unless someone else is going to play also. I was just wondering if it was a problem with the dock, or could it be the Switch it's self causing the problem?

Alot of stories but far to fishy...so if it was bad then a RMA to Nintendo ticket would've been the task but so far no report ticket related to heat. @Mowerdude actually responding where it is not your posting tells alot already. @gcunit please give real verified thermal heating just like the screen scratches myth that died off pretty fast didn't it. @G0dlike, docked/portable that sounds more like dropping the switch to cause the break-notice if it was cracked that would be where the GPU was located but it isn't. And they said wouldn't send it in sounds even more fishy to the story.

Guessing English isn’t your 1st language, that’s cool, a lot of time for the bi linguals.
Well the fact was, my Switch is on a wall mounted shelf, well ventilated, and played using a pro controller and gets used in docked mode nearly all of the time. And for the record, Nintendo said that they WOULD take it in for repair, I just didn’t want to risk losing all my save data. As soon as cloud saves are a thing, I’m sending it right there way. @SwitchForce

Whoa, a lot of people gettin' real testy in here.

Relax.

People with the issues: can you be a bit more specific than just saying "hot"?

My Switch gets warm, maybe around 100 Fahrenheit (not arbitrary... I make a lot of pizza, and I need to know water temperatures for the yeast lol) when playing something demanding like BotW or DOOM or MK8. If I proceed to play for a few hours on a demanding game, it can heat up in the dock a bit to maybe around 120 Fahrenheit or so, but never to the point where the Joycon feel warm, as well.

My opinion would be that anything you would deem "scalding," like if it were a water temperature that you couldn't hold your hand under, that would not be normal and you should probably call Nintendo. But from being a PC guy, as well, all modern boards and GPUs and such are built to heat to temperatures well over 160 Fahrenheit without any problems whatsoever. The only truly dangerous issue for your Switch would be the non-components like the plastic casing.
