I want to connect a nintendo switch to a TV via an HDMI. I watched a short tutorial on youtube and it seems pretty straight forward, but my TV is on a sideboard / TV unit with closed doors at the front like this : https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/701928291891822872/

Can i put the Nintendo switch dock in the closed cupboard doors below ? Will the controllers still be able to communicate wirelessly to the Nintendo Switch ?

Tolle (the name of cabinet in your link) means turd were I live.

Also, no, it will overheat, and also no, it will not sync, especially when you're trying to wake up the console from sleep mode. So, it's doubly not recommended.

You could always put it on the floor, but instead of putting it on a carpet (which isn't advisable), you could place it on a wood display base.

Here is one, for reference.

Go to amazon and look up 'wood display base'. You can also find more of them (including more wood ones) by searching for simply 'display base'.

Just make sure to get one that has the right dimensions to fit the dock on it. You'll find them in different shapes and sizes, and for some of them, you'll be able to select a size for certain ones found on amazon.

@aso11, it would help if you give the actual picture of the cabinet then others can so whether or not. I click on the link and saw what cabinet?

I've got one of my docks in a cabinet and it's fine. Though usually I leave the door ajar when playing.

Mine is right next to my TV with a cover when powered off.

I originally tried to place the dock behind my TV but got serious wireless problems. If you have a wide cabinet like that I'd suggest you put the dock on top (to the side of the TV). It makes it much easier to dock/undock, and eliminates any issue with wireless or heat.

If hesitate to call it a major issue but this topic does illustrate a slight big bear many might have with the dock - it doesn’t necessarily play nice with the most common TV stands.

Unless you’ve got a big wide stand that takes up a whole wall (not viable in most matchbox sized UK houses...) getting the Switch in and out is a problem.

I keep mine behind the TV but it’s still not a perfect solution because I have to lean over to change games or retrieve my joycons.

I do actually have a plan in mind to resolve the issue that involves 3D printing a dock holder that screws into the wall mounting plate (effectively creating a shelf hidden behind my TV) but I think Nintendo is likely to give us some better options in the future.

I wonder how Japan does it? Their matchboxes are even smaller than the UK!

@NEStalgia Well I live in a small apartment in Japan and I just have my TV next to my dresser - so I keep the Switch on that. There is always the option of a longer HDMI and running the cord behind things to whatever location you find convenient in your home.

Are the heating and wireless issues seriously that bad with Switch? Overheating while inside a cabinet? Wireless problems when behind a TV or closed wooden door? I can use my Wii U GamePad upstairs while the console is downstairs. I assumed the Switch's wireless tech would be more advanced or (at the very least) similar. :/
