I love how when people hear "Android" they think of this....
Despite the fact that Nintendo is building it from the ground up for their IP. IP that's built around solid controls. Would they let Mario become an endless runner? If they care that little why are they making hardware at all? I mean what's the point if they are already devices identical to what they want on the market? They're in the business of making games, they're not a phone company. Surely if they're building their own hardware then this is what you should be thinking when you hear "Nintendo NX to run Android"
Why would people think that going android = bad ? its an OS.
I just hope they don't have an open market like the Ouya and Smart Phones. There needs to be a closed market on dedicated gaming devices, those devices are were people that play games more often are and they want high quality. They don't want to have to surf through pages of Flappy Bird Clones.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Google doesn't like that other manufacturers have their own market places and user interfaces. They want them to stay close to the Android standard. That and the fact that Android security and privacy aren't very good are good reasons to stick with a regular Nintendo OS and just make it very easy to port games from Android.

That doesn't mean Nintendo couldn't make their own OS with Android as a base, to make porting easier while still have that Nintendo touch and better security/privacy.

Is this the tablet / handheld that will use those funky screens? Making it compatible with their mobile phone games seems to be a decent move. I am sure the NX will have features that make the games have that Nintendo playability on their system as opposed to a tablet / phone (aaand everyone else will copy said features.) (...and no I don't know what they would be otherwise I would be a millionaire instead of writing this speculative post!)
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
A direction I will no doubt be disappointed in. I wish they'd just stick to the gamepad for another generation and improve upon what they have instead of needlessly trying to reinvent the wheel every 5-6 years.
What OS you use has next to nothing to do with what control scheme you aim for.
This exact same rumor came up before the WiiU launch.
If it is true, the article says that they made this decision because of the WiiU, which would confirm the NX to be a console.
The downside to this if it is true is that Nintendo will once again not use X86, and their solution for filling the gaps left by missing PS4/PC ports is Android phone shovelware.
I doubt is true but kinda wish it is as and android based Nintendo device will fail pretty quickly and that way maybe we can get Nintendo games on other consoles before the end of the PS4/Xbox cycle
I could see them releasing a Micro-Console that will run along side the Home Console. (which will have a Micro-Console built into it, similar to how the Wii U has a Wii built in it) Each console can stand on its own but the ones that spend money for the bigger system have access to the smaller system's library. It could then be possible to put the Micro-Console into the Handheld and then you have a bridge between the systems. You have 3 systems across 2 devices that grant you thousands of games. Put the VC on the new Micro-Console and you have cross-platform purchases for your VC and select downloadable titles. It fixes the problem of trying to have a mixed Home Console and Portable Console, and Cross-Platform purchases. It also gives a cheap entry point that could be easily connected to the Smart Phone portal. 3 devices on the market but a home only needs 2 for full enjoyment... just an idea.

I know, in general though, they'ave already talked about trying to be "revolutionary" with the next console. I believe even mentioned control scheme a few times. We all know they aren't going to just do another standard control like the gamepad. They're going to do something ridiculous like the wii remote. For no other reason than to be unique, and that's why I say they'll be going in a direction that will disappoint me.
I'm not gonna put much stock in this just yet since Nikki has been wrong or taken grossly out of context before, and it's all we have is a very summerized account from forum user reportedly translating a Japanese website that requires an account to access...

1. That doesn't confirm the NX is a console at all.
2. Android is compatible with x86 architecture
3. Just because they use Android as the OS does not mean they will have mobile games (see: Nvidia Shield, which has games like Crysis 3 and Doom 3 for example)
