@StuTwo About 12% of every game sold goes to the platform holder.

@StuTwo I see what you are saying with the third party cost but i dont think the kids games will die they will just migrate over to the other consoles.

As for Zelda your aslo right Ive just been a huge fan of the series since the begining and would love to see it evolve. Just one game with adults in mind, a mature story, hd graphics, fully voice acted, and maybe even a sequel to a trilogy. I know they love the artsy stuffy just would love to see it once and for them to acknowledge the fans that have been with the series since it started.

And what happen to metroid?

@Mellor2000 All other consoles sell at a loss and make their money on software sales. Nintendo may stay in console market do to their name and hardcore fans but if they keep falling behind they will have a problem. I have to wonder what will happen to the switch when the other two companies announce their new consoles in a couple years and the switch is just getting a good library of games going.

also if people spend 700-800 on a phone every 2 years i think 500 to 600 on a console every 7-10 years is not to much if the specs are there and one that you could take with you and then docks and plays hd games i would definitely pay for.

@younguns Do people spend £700 - £800 on their phones every two years? Don't people get their phones on contract? £500 would be a hell of a lot of money for a games console and I would find it difficult to justify that purchase against things like my mortgage.

@Mellor2000 I dont know about you but when something I want comes along i save for it, if i think it is worth it. And when all is said and done after you by the switch as it is now its would only be 50 to 100 dollars more. your telling me you couldnt save an extra 100 dollars. anyway i guess we are really talking about something nintendo will never do.

@younguns
Aside from grammatical iota, are you really making a portion of your assumption of "no faith" on the fact that "only" 2 million units are available for launch? First, I thought the number was officially 3 million. When did that change? (I'm not saying it didn't, but I honestly had no idea it was now 2.)

If 3 is the case, there are tons of articles out there about PS4/Xbox One having pretty much that same number, maybe even actually less, for their launches. But nobody pointed at those and said "no faith."

What gives?

I guess holding several reveal events and having a super bowl ad is having no faith. Okay?

@Octane
Huh. Does nobody else not remember the 3million number?

Not really, as far as I can remember it's always been 2 million for the month

I've never got a phone on contract and technically on contract you're still paying for it eventually. One way or another. Then again I've never bothered getting a flagship phone either. Frankly, you can get a hell of a lot of phone for ~$300AU these days (£200, $250US).

Sales of the Switch will initially be quite slow. I can't imagine the masses flocking to the Switch at launch due to the barren launch line-up, but Nintendo will ramp up production closer to the release of their large scale AAA titles, and I'm sure that Switch units will be available in abundance by the time Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launches.

I never mentioned "kids" games - they're games with broad appeal that aren't exclusively targeted at the "16-30 year old male" demographic (and those either side who aspire to be within that demographic).

When it comes to kids though I'm not sure at all that that audience will migrate to PS4 or XBox One. I have young cousins and they have migrated to other formats but those formats are cheap small form tablets and free HTML5 browser games. If they own a Playstation or XBox (usually a PS3 or 360) it's as a Minecraft & FIFA machine.

I also never said that games would "die" - only that the audience that many assume is there on PS4 and XBox One if only Nintendo would go 3rd party probably isn't there.

Microsoft and Sony just haven't been especially interested in cultivating an audience for "Nintendo" games. They'd sell loads of games on PS4 certainly (maybe fewer on XBox One) but far fewer than you might expect.

You haven't noticed that the Zelda series acknowledges the fans that have been there since the beginning? It's probably my biggest flaw that they perform so much fan service!

Of course if you're saying you want a modern R-rated fantasy game that takes some stylist cues from early Zelda then I'd suggest playing the Witcher or Skyrim. They're both great games by all accounts and they don't have to carry the baggage that the Zelda series carries (for better or worse).

I should add that I think Majora's Mask and Wind Waker both have really mature storylines and themes throughout. Standing and waiting with Anju to get the couples mask is really emotional - it gives me chills just thinking about how great that moment is. It's one of the crowning achievements of videogames as an expressive artform doing things that couldn't be done in film or literature.

The SuperBowl Ad which costed five freaking million dollars tells me they have far more faith in the Switch than they did in the Wii U.
Stop projecting what you think to the rest.
