Sorry if this has been answered before, but I am thinking of trading in my Wii U for the switch, but will have the same issue as if I got a new Wii U and only be able to associate my Nintendo ID with one at a time or will I be able to have a Switch, Wii U and a 3DS?
Unfortunately, we don't really know how Nintendo is going to manage the transition yet. I would plan on keeping your WiiU until you actually have the switch in hand, because if you can transfer anything from the WiiU to the Switch, it's likely you'll need both consoles to do so.

I have never understood the appeal of trading in a console. Yeah you may get credit for it but what if you want to play a game on it again that never comes to a new console?

@Tasuki Usually backwards compatibility...and the games that can't be played on the new system I'm pretty much done with. Kinda like with the GCN games, though most of them have made it onto the Wii U in various ways. (Metroid Prime Trilogy, Wind Waker HD, etc.) Also I'm not rich. xp

Because the Switch is getting better versions or sequels of all the Wii U games
At the moment, we don't even know if the Switch will work with NNIDs or the newer Nintendo Account like MyNintendo.
I think it'll be the newer Nintendo Account. Nintendo already said it's not backwards compatible anyway, so aside from the VC, there's no point in keeping the Wii U.
Keep it for a bit. As you said there might be some ridiculous transfer process like there has been for previous Nintendo systems. I hope there isn't but you never know. Your NNID can be linked to your Nintendo Account so it should be able to work without any such process. Anyways, it's not like trade-in deals are that good anyways. Odds are you can probably sell the system on eBay or something for more than the value of a trade-in deal. Especially if you have a lot of games.
Personally I'm keeping my Wii U because it plays Wii and Wii U games. The Switch will only play Switch games. If I was going to trade in any Nintendo console for the Switch it'd probably be my original 3DS.

Pretty sure they'll give us a way to transfer VC/eShop games at some point, so...
I hope so. What I'd most like to see though is a way to be able to port my game save progress (even if I have to buy the actual VC games themselves all over again). The reason for this is that I am part way through playing alot of the existing VC games I have purchased, so that puts me off buying VC games all over again if it means losing my existing game progress. So what I really hope Nintendo do with the new paid online subscription service is make the game progress data cloud based (like they already do on Super Mario Run). That way I can continue buying new stuff, because it won't wipe all my game progress in order to do so. In my opinion, this would be a win/win for both game players and Nintendo aswell.
One of the biggest problems surrounding Wii U support is how they class those games. It would be very convenient if Nintendo did offer a transfer process for Wii U titles purchased and installed on the console; but this is Nintendo we're talking about, remember... They didn't even tell us about the Wii-to-Wii U transfer process until right before the latter's launch!
Wii U titles will almost certainly need to be emulated in some capacity. It's unlikely Switch will have a 'Wii U' mode, so the most likely outcome is that the titles will be put under the Virtual Console banner and re-released through the eShop. Reggie has stated that purchases on a Wii U will linked to your N-ID / Network account, so there is a possibility of a discount when those titles are released.
Hopefully, the rollout won't take too long. Certain titles like Captain Toad are a perfect fit for Switch, and I can't wait to continue playing them on the go.

I am the same way with consoles. It is a great collection to have and I dont want to have to rebuy something that I sold and still want to play.
This forum post did answer my NNID question. I just hope I can still link to this on The Switch for my eshop purchases.
I'd give up old consoles I'm certain I won't replay, like the Wii and the N64, but I wouldn't give up the Wii U yet since we don't have any way of replaying its catalogue (and it has some brilliant games I refuse to lose).
What I've been keeping are my handhelds. They don't take up much space and... I simply can't get rid of them. No idea why, though.
