I'm in love with this game so far. Every time the battle music or over world music comes on, it's a great time. I actually enjoy doing the side missions and (trying to) capture every familiar species I see on the map. I just finished at Hamelin and currently taking advantage of the Travel spell and backtracking a bit (to do more missions). I don't even know if I'm halfway through the game or what, but it's been a joy to play from the very beginning. I hope more people check it out.

What a charming little game this seems to be! Just beat the first boss.

Got back into this. It's a beautiful game, love the artstyle. And the battle system has really grown on me.

I believe I'm almost at the end of this game. It really is a great game, but it seems a lot easier than I remember it being on the PS3. Maybe I'm just better at it since I've played part of it before (only got about halfway through it on PS3), but I also know they throw familiars at you at the beginning in this one that I don't think they did in the original, so maybe they changed other things too to ease up the challenge.

This game is currently on sale, so i wanted to i know if you think it's worth it.
Does this game actually have good gameplay or is this the kind of RPG which you play just for the story?

Personally I like RPGs with some challenge and puzzles for variety.
Is this game for me?

@chipia I think the battle system is a little rough around the edges but overall is pretty fun. Probably not the hardest RPG around but I had a few boss fights that I found a little challenging but that was likely largely due to my party being very sub-optimal. I can't say for sure that you'll like it but there's a decent chance that you will. Very good game with a lot of charm and probably worth a chance for the super low sale price at the moment.

Got this in the sale, and am only 40 mins into it (in one session), so this isn't a comment on the game itself, but rather the cut scenes.

The cut scenes for the most part are lovely, and do look like a Studio Ghibli film. But then, for some reasons, the animation suffers a downturn in quality, and looks incredibly cheap and nasty. Then after short while, is back to looking good again.

Anybody else notice this? It really takes you out of the game

Bugger, I was gonna get it in the sale but when I went to download it the sale was already over.

Keep an eye on it. It pops up probably every six weeks, maybe more often. And it has been dropping in price too. I got mine for $15. I think it dropped to $12.

Old thread but figured I’d give it a shot…if any of you has played the whole game through, what are your recommendations for the best familiars? I was very hyped for this game when it came out, but a few hours into it I got overwhelmed by the monster collecting aspect (didn’t realize it was that type of game) and the combat system was kind of maddening for me, so I put it down. I would love to pick it up again and complete the journey, just to experience the story and the immersive world, but I don’t want to fuss around looking for the best familiars. Maybe a bit lazy of me, but otherwise I just don’t see myself ever completing the game. Thanks in advance.

@SNES_Chalmers tbh I did not pay much attention to the choice of familiars. Maybe because I played it at the easy difficulty level, but I found even my unremarkable critters were workable without excessive grinding. I think what matters is leveling up the ones you have. I kept the original familiar that came with Oliver and that fat bird. One thing I wish I realized was that the game came with bonus tickets that you can use to trade for special familiars once you meet a certain sage. There is also an area in the game where you can farm a certain enemy that drops huge exp points when defeated. And later in the game I found myself using Oliver a lot anyway.

Sounds like you're around the halfway mark in Ni no Kuni on PS3. You've passed the mechanical city and the spooky mountain path. You're not super close to the end, but you've made good progress. If you're thinking about switching to the Switch version, it might be a good time!

@cwong15 Thank you. It’s been a couple years since I played, and I had forgotten that there were different difficulty modes. Forget what I had used but my default pick is usually normal—but sounds like easy mode would better suit my purposes in this case. Thanks again.
