Topic: New Super Mario Bros NX likely?

How likely will we see a New Super Mario Bros game on NX? It's been almost 3 years and we should get a new game in this series, New Super Mario Bros. 3. Nintendo should also consider a New Super Mario World game.

There has only been one per platform so far, so time since the last game really has nothing to do with it.

But yes, probably. As much as we all like to call the series stale and uncreative, it still sells boatloads.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

I actually don't think so, Mario Maker makes 2D Mario platformers obsolete.as you can literally create whatever you want with it.

Not really... I'm sure it'll offer a lot of assets to play with, and I'm sure you can recreate levels from the earlier Mario games, but I doubt you'll be able to recreate the levels from NSMB.

Moved to the NX thread.

I have a feeling since the NX is their next big system, they wont do a NSMB copy. I'm guessing they're going to make something like Mario Galaxy 3, or something really innovative to make people want to buy the NX, instead of a copy and paste game like NSMB.

Mario platforming games are sure fire sellers even though they are incredibly iterative. Feelings registered online on gaming sites about the 4 NSMB games didn't mean that any single one of those games didn't sell well. They just sold and sold. So while Mario Maker may go a step further with the novelty of giving people a game they can continually come back to for new content, potentially for years to come, I don't think it will be the case that those players and also many other fans who didn't pick up Mario Maker, won't want to buy an all new original title with its own original features and updated graphics, just because they can keep on platforming in another Mario game.

For example, Mario 3D World has some levels where you play with side-on 2D like perspective. With the cat suit power up attainable at the start of the level so players can explore the compatible platforming, that's not something you can recreate with the editing features in Mario Maker. And so people will surely continue to want to play new games. Especially when it's among the first few new games to play on a new generation system.

I really hope not because we don't need another NSMB game, but I can see them making another one, though.

I'd be surprised if Nintendo's next system features another sequel to NSMB. I'm certain the next system will not have the Wii/DS branding and will also have an SMB game with new branding and world concepts as well

I say it's safe to assume that whatever future console Nintendo makes will have a 2D Mario.

Oh for sure. The numbers don't lie. The sales of NSMB and it's 3.5 sequels would suggest to anybody that 2D Mario games would be top top priority on a new system.

Sales of NSMBU and NSLU combined make it the Wii U's most bought game.

NSLU doesn't count though as it's DLC for NSMBU.

Which got its own release and hence got its own sales. I say it counts as a half-game.

Well, I can say I bought Super Luigi U and not Super Mario Bros U.

I'd say it counts as a spinoff.

Doesn't break the "1 game per console" rule, but it's more than just simple dlc.

NSLU has its own unit sales separate from NSMBU which makes both sales perfectly combinable to illustrate the point of the series' top-tier success.

Really, because NSLU got its own separate retail release, it's combined sales with NSMBU make the total units sold figure just as countable as a main series Pokemon release where sales of both games are always counted as a total

I think it's very likely. I wouldn't be surprised if it did come to NX, but I won't be disappointed if it doesn't.

Of course, it's a guarantee that we're getting some kind of Super Mario Bros. game on NX.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I actually think we may get a Mario Maker upgrade as a replacement, but I wouldn't be surprised to see another NSMB or both NSMB and Mario Maker appearing on the NX.

New Super Mario Bros. is the single franchise I want Nintendo to do their "innovations" on. Because it's the series that has gotten the most bland. Assuming they make another, which they probably will, I really hope they change up gameplay dramatically.

And add online multiplayer. Just once.
