@Chunkboi79 I have played all 3 of them secret of mana is my favorite game of all time sure lot of it is nostalgia but man at that time it whas so much of a big adventure.

Trials of mana is the best game of the 3.
(Love secret more though)
Best ai balanced combat no magic spamming and a decent challenging bosses, multiple endings and improved graphics, story is boring in my opinion.

Now playing
Nexomon
Dicey Dungeons
UnderMine
Steamworld Quest

@DenDen Yeah it seems like nostalgia plays a big factor in Secret of Mana's appeal. I have no doubt it was revolutionary for the time, I just don't think it aged well. I never played any of the games before but I couldn't get over how my AI companions would just run into attacks and when I would get stun locked on magic (I nearly threw my switch controller fighting the spiny tiger lol). However, I really hope that the trials of mana remake is a success because I would like to see the series evolve. It seems like it has yet to reach it's full potential.

But I agree that the story could be better. However, I thought everyone had compelling stories but I am also comparing it to Octopath Traveller. Which after playing about 75 hours in I found all of their stories pretty boring (outside of primrose).

@SwitchForce it is called Trials of Mana, too. And the 2020 TOM is a remake of the game that was localized in Collection of Mana. So, the topic-starter did all correctly.

If you read my links provided it's not the same if this is the english version.

@SwitchForce if you have a collection of games, that means there's different games within the collection.

If I'm playing the Capcom Beat em up bundle and was struggling in final fight. I would obviously say I'm struggling in final fight, not the beat em up bundle. Because the collection is just that the name of the collection not the game itself.

The collection name is Collection of Mana,
and the game is trials of mana. What don't you get bro?

It's true. Case in point, I still enjoy playing Secret of Mana but I didn't have that much fun with Trials of Mana, simply because I didn't play it back when it was released.

I am also probably skipping Romancing Saga 3. Even though it looks a LOT like my all time fave Final Fantasy 6, I probably won't enjoy it. I can forgive the limitations in FF6. they'd probably annoy me in RS3.

I only played Secret of Mana when it came to Android devices a few years ago... I guess I was aware that it was an older game, though Also, if you remember what games were like back then & adjust expectations accordingly
It was praised for it's ring menu system, back in the day! Honestly, other games back then had rather worse & more difficult set-ups

@Daniel36 Yeah nostalgia plays a huge role in how forgiving we can be. I'm not incredibly old (23) but I know that some games that I played back in the day probably had some major issues. One I can think of is the parkour in Prince of Persia Sands of Time, I love the game to death. However, if someone new played it after playing assassins creed they would probably hate it.

@BruceCM I think that's where I struggled because my SNES experience is limited to Megaman, Donkey Kong, Zelda ALTTP, and Chrono Trigger
