@JaxonH Playing a lot of the previous versions helps a lot. Wish I would have played more of generation now though.

Well, anyone with CFW can convert their MH Gen save to MHX save, then import to MHXX on 3DS, then transfer to Switch via the new save transfer app.

That's what I did, and I'm glad. I will put on some low rank armor and hunt with you guys though. I think we all need some time to feel the game out first though. And TJ might be transferring his save from Gen also which could be another day or two.

But once everyone has gotten accustomed to it, we should hunt

@JaxonH Eh, I'm going Prowler still, so it shouldn't be too bad for me. (especially once I unlock the boomerang skills)

I may go online once I finish most of the low rank village quests to make online easier for me, at least until I get back to where I am in Generations. (I just defeated high rank Nakarkos there)

You sound like you're exactly where I was. Maybe a little past. Come to think of it, we were hunting together in Generations, weren't we? I remember fighting that Nakarkos- I had never seen it before. I also remember fighting the Hyper Garuga a bunch when farming my high rank Garuga set. Which, is a rad set. Should last me until G rank, at which point we'll all get to decide what new armor to make.

The Nakarkos I hunted online was high rank, though, hyper Garuga I dealt with alone, so....o.o

@JaxonH Not exactly sure the the CFW is but if it had to do with homebrewing the 3ds it's something I won't do

That's exactly what it is. Custom Firmware. I buy all my games, but I love the convenience and freedom of CFW. I mean, it allowed me to to access this game in English. It allowed me to convert and transfer my save. It's allowed me to dump my entire physical collection of retail games digitally for easy access. It's provided me with a complete SNES and GBA virtual console, including English fan translations of all 7 Fire Emblem games which never released in the west, it let's me back up my save data and import into my other 3DS, custom themes, got to play Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D in English... heck just playing Japanese games period without having to buy another system...

It's absolutely invaluable, particularly with this whole MHXX ordeal. And even though you guys don't have it, at least I can reference the English patched version of MHXX. So if there's anything you guys get stumped on, just let me know and I can check the game on 3DS to see what it says.

Unfortunately the translation isn't quite 100% complete so there are some things still in JP (DLC content and dialog). But Generations can be referenced for most things, and it's 100% translated.

Oh, a tip. If you hit ZR in the villages it brings up chat. You get 3 sets of the same messages- I edited my first set to match what it says best I could with the limited space for characters. But I would recommend putting in custom quick messages in English so that when you play in multiplayer you can use the English quick chat messages you made. I just need to figure out how to pull up the chat during a hunt

@JaxonH I don't deny it's useful and the people that make it happen are all the bit as geniuses as the developers that make the games and products. It's just not something I will participate in because it unfortunately does lead to more nefarious conclusions

It does. But all one can do is use it responsibly. I'll never have control over what other people do but I do have control over what I do and I can choose to use it in a responsible manner and still buy all my games (as a collector I could never stomach not buying my games anyways, never mind the fact I wouldn't steal)

Yeah I guess, some of the monsters back in 4 I watched (mainly because it was taking forever for 4U, lol)...it does take some of the surprise out.

Like with Nakarkos, I never watched his videos, so I was trying to figure out what his true form really was.

So how's the hunting going? Finding your way around the menus OK? I figure once you started playing you'd realize it's not half as bad as it seems... not to say there aren't challenges because obviously there are, but... it's doable. And I've been investigating the transfer app- I just wanted to confirm that you can actually transfer your save back to 3DS. Because if you can do that then you can just transfer it back to the English version before you craft and then send it right back to switch when you're done (I guess I mean the collective "you" not you in particular, and me obviously).

Are you using the resources provided? Kiranico and their complete EN-JP translated Database, and Google Translate? I'm finding Kiranico extremely useful. I'm doing key quests to unlock the urgent that will take me to high rank in the village quests- and to unlock this particular urgent you have to go do a certain quest line in all 4 villages- GaijinHunter made a video stating which quests at which star rank at which villages needed to be done to unlock the urgent, so I just snapped a pic of the quest lines from his YouTube video, and I look them up on Kiranico, then change to JP and look for the quest with that name in game.

Also found learning kana was a great investment. Chat, Help, Options... so many menu items that can be read on the spot without any tools at all.

But yeah I'm fine, I'm still sticking with Prowler. I'll worry about stuff like food skills (and skills in general) later. xD

@Tsurii I'd say Capcom has personally shot it down, considering multiple analysts have said World's target is only 1.5 million.

@CrazedCavalier I've heard something about that. Seems fairly low, considering 3 major platforms in the West, but then again, MH is "niche" so that's probably to do with it.

I wonder if the core demographic will be on board enough with this, since it may not have the effect of attracting the userbase Capcom is gunning for here.

@UmniKnight Hence the low expectations.
They've practically killed their sales in Japan (500k is nothing on 3 million) and have to hope every Western fan makes the jump while attracting newer players.

@CrazedCavalier Yeah, I wonder how many copies this will sell on PS4 in Japan. As good and popular as any-one game may be, Japan has it's culture and that just works with handheld devices. If Sony wants to come back in the country, I don't think a traditional home-console will cut it.

I'm sure Sony will market the heck out of MHW, and there will be a fair amount of people buying it there. PC, it depends on how they do the port, as there's a lot that can go wrong there honestly. Xbox, I don't see many sales, as they've never had much contact with MH and I don't think that's where the base is.

But I digress, hopefully there's some truth to that ground-up MH rumour, since I can't see them localizing XX without significant pressure from Nintendo.

eh, I think they're lying about those sales expectations. Even I know the game will do 1 million in Japan. And there's no way the west, on 3 platforms, only accounts for another half mil.

They're purposely doing this so no matter what happens, they can say the game "smashed sales expectations". Think they're afraid of shooting high and having it not meet it, and be called a failure.

But enough of that. @TeeJay should come out from his hiding hole now that his Generations save data is transferred to Switch...

I haven't heard from him in forever...
