@Spanjard No, walking stays walking — exploration is just what PR calls it. I'd like to 'explore' the Monster Hunter world some time, but they're in no way lesser games for the area-based approach. That chase of following a monster's shadow is far more than you get in open world games where you just find enemies at their spawns. In Tri monsters had a designated nest and certain areas that they would and wouldn't go to, predation cycles, etc.
I was just thinking again about the coop idea. Now with the felines being playable, single player coop just makes too much sense. One as a hunter and one as feline. It could be super fun. Make it happen Cappie!

Huh? Are you talking about the ally cats that are already in the game, something like Brothers where you're controlling 2 players at once, or splitscreen? If that was going to be in the game they would have announced it on stage at the tournament event.
And yeah, I hope XX gets a mention and a release date in Nintendo's presentation.
@Joeynator3000 It's mostly exploring the towns and the Snowy Peaks. Then Lao-Shen Lung, then Brachydios.
But seriously, it sucks that the arena looks literally no better than Monster Hunter 4 on original 3DS with how many quests send you there. Those repeating ground textures are grody and low quality.
@Joeynator3000 The ground in other areas has a nice depth to it, and is aesthetically pleasing by being grassy or built of cobblestone. I'm not a graphics snob at all, it's just in that one dirty-floored area that it bugs me.
@Joeynator3000 I like the Cross arena theme a lot better actually. The violins add to the sense of action and progression in a battle. Any long, upbeat violin strokes like that I love.
@Tsurii All of the arena themes are great, and I like the more 'wild' theme that 3 and 4 went for, but I like Cross' the most. That clapping rhythm with those satisfying violin strings escalating the tune, and of course the operatic voices — it's amazing.
I actually just spoiled myself on Valfalk (it was in all the trailers) and the Ruined Ridge's theme and... oh boy, am I going to hunt a lot of Ludroths in that zone. Even if there are only two real new monsters, the flagship has one of the best compositions in Monster Hunter history. Apparently Massacre Diablos also got his own theme, which is interesting.

Yes I'm talking about the ally cats. Splitscreen. I think it would be nice for let's say a MH 5 entry. Maybe a drop in feature, where you are playing the campaign and someone comes over and can just activate the controller and drop in as a cat.
Obviously this is more difficult than I make it sound, but a guy can dream, right? It could help with easing someone into this game which can be intimidating.

The director of the Portable games, he's also the one working on Generations and the expansion.
And yeah, 3/3U had an underwater arena...but in those games there was only one music theme.
