@jump, apparently even if I bail on the mission I can still keep the characters I've already unlocked (and their progress), so I may go back to a previous mission to grind a bit before heading back in.

Nah, you can keep unlocked characters as they are given at save points anyway but if you level up in a failed chapter/trial you will lose the progress.

Going back to level up did the trick. Absolutely crushed Kingpin this morning.

Tonight I finished up the Avengers Tower mission, then played long enough into the Xavier Institute mission to unlock Psylocke & Nightcrawler.

This is the part of the game that they showcased during "Treehouse Live" at E3, and if I remember right, after the next few hurdles I should be unlocking Deadpool.

Haven't hit any major brick walls since Kingpin, though I cleared the Ultron/Ultimo fight by a hair (only had Spider-Gwen left).

Does anyone know where the rifts are to unlock the post-game trials? I've googled it but it's only telling me about the earlier ones and the summary in story chapters says I'm not missing any rifts.

I beat Dormammu tonight. Got a little close because I only had Psylocke left by the end but I pulled through.

Off to the next mission.

Man, those snipers in Wakanda suck. For awhile there I wasn't sure why my heroes' health was plummeting (one hit seems to take out a little over 3/4ths of full health).

It's been a pretty fun mission overall though (just beat a boss with I think soundwave attacks that bounced all around).

@RR529 starting this game possibly tonight. Just read through some of your posts and I get discouraged when I'm stuck on a particular boss fight. Not sure how far along king pin is, I'm also not sure much about the game and it's leveling system. With that said this may be a question that doesn't apply, but what level do you need to be at to beat kingpin? Or does leveling in this game not have numbers persae?

@NintendoByNature, the recommended level was I think 10, but I want to say my party was about 14-15 when I beat him. He's the main boss of the 3rd mission, and I've just now cleared mission 8, and haven't hit another roadblock that big yet. Don't be too discouraged though, as there are various ways to power up.

  • You can go back to an earlier point in the level (or even earlier levels) if you need to grind up your party (while doing this resets the story back to that earlier point, you keep any unlocked characters and experience, so you'll be stronger than you were when you get back to where you were).
  • You can tackle any Infinity Trials you have unlocked to grind party members. These are special missions seperate from the main story.
  • There's also EXP cubes you can use to level your characters, but I'm a bit stingy and haven't used any. Sometimes enemies will drop them, but you'll mostly find them in hidden treasure boxes or by completing Infinity Trials.
  • There is a skill tree that affects your entire party. Nodes do things like increase overall strength (physical attack), mastery (energy attack), durability (physical defense), resistsnce (energy defense), etc. To activate nodes you need a certain amount of in-game currency & enhancement points (which you earn everytime a character levels up).
  • Characters' individual special attacks can be upgraded as well to do more damage, use less energy, etc.
  • You can also power up heroes by equipping ISO-8 to them. These are stones that can do things like increase overall health, strength, etc. Some are give and take though, as they'll really increase one stat, while decreasing another. Each character starts with only 1 ISO-8 slot, but can be increased to four slots over time by levelling up. NOTE: you don't have access to ISO-8 until after Kingpin.

@RR529 all great things to make note of, thank You. Out of curiosity, does it actually indicate what level to be at at for each boss?

Anytime you're at the main SHEILD menu (the menu you access whenever you're at one of those glowing SHEILD checkpoints that lets you swap out party members, access the skill tree, etc.), on the bottom right it'll have the difficulty you're currently playing at, as well as a level number (let's say "level 24", as an example) which I assume indicates what level your party members should (ideally) be at for the area.

@RR529 got it thanks. Last night I started my play through. I'm at king pins level but stopped playing short of him due to it starting to get late

I'm workind through this pretty slowly, but I have to say I really enjoyed the last couple missions I've worked through (Wakanda & Hel/Asgard). A lot of environmental variety (with some actual setpieces) & good bosses.

The costumes coming in the free update are a lot better than the pallet swap rubbish in the game currently. I'm very pleased they are giving away the Warbird outfit for Captain Marvel as it's the one I think of mainly when thinking of Carol Danvers super-outfit.
