Topic: Mario Tennis Aces

To be fair, realism isn’t Nintendo’s forte, which is why the right arm on the cover looks bizarre.

I am super-duper chuffed that this is coming out when the grass season begins (Eastbourne and Wimbledon respectively) so, there shall definitely be a nice uptick of sales here in the UK then!

I hope the story mode is as good as the one in Mario Golf: Advance Tour. That was amazing...

Actually I've decided that almost nothing about the staging makes sense.

Why are Mario and Peach both in front of the service line?
Why is line-judge Toad positioned on the wrong line?
WHY CAN I NOT BUY THOSE MARIO SHOES?

1) Why is Wario SO FAT now.
2) I'm not sure how I feel about any of the mechanics with this new gauge. I'm certainly a fan of a more basic gameplay, and Mario's trickshot jumps looked... silly.
3) I'm not sure how realistic breaking rackets really is. (Realism, hah.)
4) Chain Chomp! I'm interested in seeing more of him. He moves like a Power character, which isn't my style.
5) I like that they included the motion controls, and I will probably try to use them for fun, but ultimately like most games where you have a choice it won't be as good as normal controls.

Honestly the best part of that section was seeing a regular Chain Chomp bouncing around holding a racket with its fangs.

Out of all the Mario characters they have in their disposal Chain Chomp got in. Before Shy Guy,Dry Bones and Birdo,kinda sad actually.

Those characters have all been playable before, this is Chain Chomp's day in the spotlight.

Also I could swear I saw a playable dry bones somewhere in the direct.

@MsJubilee Birdo and Shy Guy already had their turn. Also that's just who we know so far, they could quite possibly be more.

Not to mention the "you may even get new characters!" bit in the direct.

Anyone annoyed at Chain Chomp being in this game hates fun. Chain Chomp is the most absurd character for a tennis game and I am overjoyed at this.

Nobody ever invites him to parties, sports, not even go karting.

"You don't have arms" they say. "You wouldn't understand how to play" they say. "Why don't we tie you here where you can't hurt anyone?". It's always the same.

Everybody always treats him like an obstacle. Well now he'll be the ultimate obstacle.

They'll see.

@Meowpheel He was in the trailer,telling Mario to scram, so that brings me hope he'll make it in. I refuse to believe they'll let that model go to waste.

@MsJubilee Well I mean, when's the last time they've even been relevant? (Don't get me wrong, Shy Guy is my second favorite Mario baddy, but also the people who care about him are far and few between)

I'm actually hyped for this game now. I only played Mario Tennis GBC and GBA and I had no interest in this game prior to the Direct. The amount of surprising depth with the gameplay mechanics really won me over.

Gonna monitor this game from now on!

I've never played a Mario Tennis game, but this game has me interested in wanting to play it. It looks like it's shaping up to be pretty good.

i have to say they really are trying after what became Ultra Smash.
i'm looking forward to this in june.

I thought this looked pretty good tbh. Seems to have some neat strategic elements thrown in, which is cool. I also really like that they'll do motion controls and standard tennis. Looking forward to it.

So, this game looks like all it can be, unless there's something we don't know. The colored silhouettes left behind by the special shot or whatever it's called remind me of how Strikers had its own style and recognizable imagery. The animations in general looked pretty nice, the few different maneuvers they established look like they'll be fun to watch in matches where both players are charging up and burning specials aggressively.

The narration said 'more than 15 characters' as they showed off the 14 returning characters from Ultra Smash + Chain Chomp. Perhaps we can expect people or critters from Odyssey to be unlockable.

The Unlockable Characters would be unlocked by online, it said it in the direct. Pretty sure the silhouette was a dry bones though.
