This appears to be Acquire's take on the Diablo formula. Looks as though you play a sword smith who attempts to gain renown with three different clans. At first glance I thought the game looked pretty cool. So today I was happy to see that the game received a solid score from Famitsu, a 32/40. If Snack World fails to entertain me over my vacation it'll be nice to have Katana Kami as a backup option.
Looks like there's some online connectivity involving a Dark Souls-esq invasion mechanic.

I'm pretty excited for this one. I love the SamuraiDou series (even Western). I'm hoping if this sells well enough 4 plus will get ported or an announcement for 5 will happen.

P.S. - Side note, the Japanese version does not default to English. You'll have to manually change the language. At the title screen you'll see four options. Language is the bottom option.

Alot better than having no english options for the money one spent on buying it.
@Magician Does your copy work with the NA eShop or just the JP eShop?
The version you purchase is tied to the region it originated from. If you bought the Japanese physical release you'll need a Japanese Nintendo account to download the extras that come in a code with the game.
Anywho, first impressions. I feel that one word sums up this game fairly well, stressful. This action/rpg is on the opposite spectrum from Diablo III. In Diablo III the gameplay focuses on you melting enemy mobs as quickly as possible. Here in Katana Kami combat is more measured, slower.
It feels like an honest attempt at being a samurai simulator. Rather than spamming attacks as you would in most other action/rpg games, instead your best source of offense is to dodge/parry and then counterattack. And if more enemies are in the general area that counterattack will extend to those enemies as well.
The degree of chain attacks you can execute early in game are mesmerizing.
I've got two major qualms with the game, one is input response time, the other is the fixed camera. It feels as though there's a delay from my button press to the actual action on screen. It isn't a problem now, but it could be a serious problem later on when more enemies crowd the screen and the framerate begins dipping.
And the fixed camera is just awful, as buildings can block your view. The game offers character and enemy silhouettes through obstacles, but there may be ground-based environmental obstacles in your way as well, and the silhouettes don't help in avoiding those.

@Rpg-lover I'm guessing you are talking about the Japanese version. My question was about the US version if I can play in Japanese. That option is sometimes removed on domestic eshop releases.

@SwitchForce what? I didn’t say anything about physical vs eshop versions. I’m asking about the regional differences.

Thanks! I asked because there are games (e.g. Ryza) that I bought but was the EU version but all updates and DLCs work with the NA eShop. Although if there was a code for something I'm guessing it'll only work on the EU eShop like you said.
I do have an JP account so it's no problem for me to buy the JP physical version just like yours. Thanks!
Does anyone know how to get the dlcs of the Japanese physical version? Do they come in a code in the box or where because in the eshop of Japan they do not appear in the European if
so in the japan version does anyone know on the start screen showing the samurai and girl which option to pick?
Holly beep that wasn't easy.....I had to use google translate to just translate the word english to japanese to find the right characters. This isn't easy.
