Topic: Katamari Damacy Reroll

No new thread for this huh? I never played one of these games, but I heard that this game was the best thing ever. I assumed they were being sarcastic and it should be a game to avoid like the plague.

...I saw a playthrough of the original via PB&Jeff and...it was oddly fun to watch. Kinda glad the Switch is getting a remake because I want to look into it.

Guess I'll go ahead and ask, is there an iOS or PC version/game that I could go for while waiting for this?

I'm a huge fan of this series, own the first 4 of them, so I'm really glad to see it getting a new release.
However, There doesn't seem to be anything new so far. Seems like a ps2 game with better lighting, It works well for people who have never tried katamari, and I hope it does well, as seeming it is to test the waters to see if people are still interested in the series.

(Also, no pc, there was one released on the phone back in 2008, I'm not sure if that one is still playable)

I think it's a remake of the first game, I noticed some visual improvements here and there, so yeah. This does say something, though...maybe a new one is on the way?

The first game never got a release in Europe so that's a new. But then subsequent KD games revisited the same stages. I think the series high-point was We Love Katamari.
I'm still getting this though.

Its kinda stinks how bittersweet this is for Katamari Damacy fans. I mean, a new re-release is good for the potential continuation of the series, but how many times have people played the first one?

So US GameStop has this listed at $29.99, which sounds very reasonable. However, it has a listed date of Dec 7th, the day of Smashpocalypse.

I'm glad the series is finally getting some form of attention. Probably the best thing in the whole direct.

Hmm, that's interesting. I hadn't even bothered checking for listings yet. I'm not sure if it's wise to release it on the same day as Smash (if true).

I've heard decent things about this series but hadn't even heard of it until a few months ago. It seems worth checking out at any rate.

@Tyranexx watch some video, and you’ll get the gist. The charm of the game is its humor and music, because the gameplay is very simple in design but it’s soooo fun.

One of my best friends of all time loved this game, so I absolutely have to try it now that I have another chance.

I heard it comes out of the 7th of December same day as Smash so I doubt i'll buy it of launch. I had the PSP version and was good fun from what I can remember.

It looks really silly and fun and I love the art style. I'm definitely keen.

I honestly never got the appeal of the game or series. It's weird in that distinctive Japanese Game Show way though.

I gotta say I'll be playing this before smash thats for sure. Katamari on the Rocks is still one of the best game themes ever. The Moon and the Prince is pretty much the main reason I graduated from college. Jam that song and I can do work forever.

I do wonder what is going on with this remaster resurgence gaming is going though right now.

Is bringing good games back for new people to experience really a bad thing though?

@Ryu_Niiyama I'll be getting this before Smash, too. I definitely plan to buy Smash sometime, but it's just Smash to me, it's "comfort gaming". I already know I'm going to like it, but I also know for damn sure it's not going to be anything really new.

Of course, Katamari isn't new, either, but it's a game I've never played and have heard so much about that I'm looking forward to it much, much more than Smash.

Of course, both of these games are going to have an uphill fight to get me away from Civ 6.

Katamari Damacy is simple, stupid fun. Probably worth $20 or so, if only to experience the increasingly absurd scale of the destruction caused by your character.

@Ryu_Niiyama The industry discovered that you could take an old game, do a bit of performance tweaking and texture work and release it as something new that people would be happy to part with their hard-earned money for. They're easy money for these companies, and will likely remain en vogue for as long as they're profitable, I imagine.

Regarding the rerelease of old games, it's not a bad thing. The games that get rereleased are usually good games. But the original console or system the game released on is no longer easy to get a hold of. For example I'll probably pick up most (if not all) of the Final Fantasy games on their way even though I already have them because my PS2 is old, and could wear out any time. Not to mention when I eventually have to replace my tv, the new one may not have AV jacks to plug my PS2 and Gamecube into.

I'm not that interested in this particular game, but I have nothing against it being rereleased.
