Topic: Joycon spares/repairs places to buy (UK)

Hi all

(Did a quick search, but didn't find this particular topic. If it does exist, I'll happily add this to it.)

It appears that the sl button on my right joycon has died.

From a quick perusal online it appears that swapping out one part for a new one does the trick. Looks fairly painless.
I'll need to get the screwdriver set in addition to the part.

Just wondering if there are any particular places / sellers that come recommended or that I should avoid? I'm not up for waiting half a year to save a quid, so was mainly thinking of UK / EU - based places.

Thanks in advance

@Rambler In case nobody in the forum has a recommendation, you could ask Nintendo Life with an email from their contact page. They are in the UK and maybe know a good place to point you. You can use the pasted link, or the "Contact" button a the bottom of the page. I think the "Contact" button might only be visible when logged in. https://www.nintendolife.com/contact

Hey @Woomy_NNYes,
Thank you for the response and your advice, it's really appreciated. That is definitely something to keep in mind for the future.
In this case, it was mainly just a quick ask about anybody's experience.
I'll just have a better look on eBay for parts. From having a look at the screwdriver sets, the only item I think I need is the tri-wing screwdriver - should have all the other bits.
I'm guessing that all the sl/sr parts come from the same factory anyway, so it's just a case of choosing a decent supplier.

Thanks once again for your help!

@Rambler If it's the ribbon cable you're after, I bought mine on eBay. I think I did get mine from China, but it didn't take as long as expected on that occasion, maybe 10 days or so. Given that all the sellers seem to be using the same image in their listings I would guess they are all sourced from the same place.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

Hey @gcunit - apologies for the late response, and still not bought the kit due to other commitments. But yeah, the ribbon cable, that's the one . It looks like you need a specific right ribbon for the right joycon (& vice-versa)?
As I've got a bit of drift in the left thumb stick, and (since posting above) now have a bit of drift on the right, I'm going to go full-on DIY ninja'ing with this

@Rambler D'oh - would have been delivered from China by now if you got your arse in gear

Good luck with it anyway, whenever you get round to it. Can be a bit fiddly and it feels like you're setting yourself up for a repeat problem when packing the new ribbon cable away during reassembly, but as far as I know right now my fix is still good (I rarely use the SL & SR buttons so haven't tested them recently).

@gcunit - totally! And cheers!
I've got some time set aside next week for this and fixing a mouse (read: taking the mouse to pieces, then wondering what to do).

Yeah, the videos I watched emphasised the gentleness needed in folding the ribbon, but it all should be okay...

With this and the thumbsticks, two-player games will be back on the menu, and Link will stop trying to walk off cliffs
