The title says it all, I've been using the Switch undocked while plugged in for a while now. But I was generally curious to know, is using it undocked while plugged in safe? Isn't it the same thing as having it docked?

@kereke12 There is no harm in it. I've read articles online that suggest using rechargeable devices while plugged in can have an effect on battery life, but I have been doing this since the GBA-SP with many different devices and have never had any problems. I have done this with Nintendo, Sony, Apple, Samsung and Asus products all without any detectable issues.

The danger, as DS owners can attest, is accidentally pulling or yanking the cord and damaging the charging port. I had several DS systems get damaged charging ports from the kids playing them while charging.
The only time I cracked my phone screen in the past 4 years was due to charging as well. It got knocked off the bed and swung by the cord instead of falling straight to the floor. It swung straight in to corner of another device and cracked the screen. The case has always protected it from normal drops.
Micro USB ports also never seemed very sturdy but so far in my experience I have not seen USB-C ports failing.
