Topic: Internet Connectivity on Switch

Ok so we all know Nintendo is charging for online and that you can take the console anywhere. We see people playing a game in the park on a plane and other places in the first trailer. My question is has Nintendo announced how it will get internet connection on the go? The thing I wonder if I want to play Splatoon Online or MK8 online and say at the beach or whatever how would I be able to play it online?

I would think of course it would have WiFi connectivity but what if your nowhere WiFi or can't get into it due to passwords etc. Will Switch have 4G as well?

I doubt it will have 4G, but I'm sure it'll at least have wi-fi

I think you can't.

@Octane That's going to suck if you can't but then again Nintendo has always been odd about how they handle online. Still the have said it themselves that Switch is more of a home console then a portable. Still I am sure there will be alot of disappointed Splatoon fans and MK8 online players if you can't go online anywhere with Switch.

@Tasuki I know, I know. The frustrating part is that all of this should've been addressed a couple of days ago. Everything's still vague and unclear. I have no idea whether they have a solution for this or not, if they're not going to talk about it in the coming weeks, then I think you can safely assume that there isn't a solution.

@Octane Right. I agree. I was just wondering if maybe I missed something. I know as I said Nintendo themselves see Switch as more of a home console, but I can almost guarantee the consumer is going to be more attracted to it as a portable especially with having games like Skyrim on it something that you can't get on PS4, Xbox One or PC. In that itself people are going to want it to have good internet connectivity for games like Splatoon, and if Nintendo doesn't see that it could mean losing some possible Switch sales.

probably not, you will have to pair it with your phone.

@TheLZdragon WiFi is great but what if you are in an area that you can't get WiFi?

You can use your current data plan if you have a hotspot. Why bother buying another plan?

As long as they allow more networks to be saved I don't think it'll be an issue. The thing that stops me going online with the 3DS isn't the lack of WiFi. Even if it was that's a problem that can be solved with tethering or mobile hotspots. The issue is that I have to delete one of the other networks to go online when there is free WiFi.

That scenario in the trailer with the dude waiting for a plane? If it was the 3DS it wouldn't be a lack of WiFi that stops him going online. It would be the fact that he'd have to delete the WiFi config for his brother's place in order to play 20mins of Splatoon while he waits for his flight.

@TheLZdragon But how would you use a hotspot if none are around?

Your phone? Even the Vita stopped doing 3G when people didn't use it that much

I have a question, has Nintendo released any info as to weather the switch will have an ethernet port? I seem to remember someone stating that the dock won't but I find that hard to believe. Any clarification is vary much appreciated.

Thanks,

@Octane Ok thank you for answering me so quickly. For me anyway that's not the best of news as my internet connection is rather slow (a 10 mg DL takes 30 min) or it just doesn't connect but when I connect through Ethernet it works ok not grate. Looks like I'll need to find a place with good wifi ;p
