Topic: If Xbox game pass and PS now were available on switch would you subscribe to them?

Pretty much the title says it all. Microsoft more and more seems willing to play ball with the other big console companies and they seem more concerned with getting their games to gamers rather than only focused on having gamers play on their system. For me specifically if Xbox game pass came to switch I would immediately get it because it would allow me to play halo 5 on my preferred console, though I’m not sure Nintendo would be as willing to have Microsoft games on their system.

If we can suspend reality for just a moment and assume it was possible to have these services on the switch would that be something the community would be into? What if instead of game pass costing $10 a month on an Xbox system it costed $15 a month on Nintendo’s system? Would it still be worth it to take the dive?

While I do own a ps4 I admittedly don’t subscribe to PS Now so I am not as familiar with the games it has available or it’s pricing scale but it would be similar to the Xbox games pass example above where it would cost slightly more on a competitor’s system.

Just to be clear I wasn’t referring to their online paywalls know as Xbox live gold and ps plus. Those are typically what people are referring to when they are talking about the free games Microsoft and Sony give out monthly. I am only asking about Xbox game pass and ps now. The games from these kind of rental services aren’t generally considered free by the people I have had conversations with.

@PuppyToucher It all depends on the games offered, my friend. If there were a fair amount of games I wanted to play at the moment, probably, but if not, well, probably not. Seeing as I'm not made of money (at least I don't think I am) it would allow me to play games I otherwise wouldn't have the money for. I, of course, would rather have the games be mine to keep but I can't print money (well I guess I could but that's kind of illegal). So, to answer the question, it all depends on if I think the games offered are worth my money.

I mean, in the dream world, I would love playing through Halo 1-3 and Reach again. But beyond there, there isn't a lot of 1st party MS or Sony titles I care about. Most of what interests me is 3rd party titles.

@PuppyToucher PS Now is a streaming service, Game Pass allows you to download the games. That's the biggest difference as far as I know. It's also more expensive at $19.99 a month, but a yearly fee is a little cheaper at $99.99 (PS Now is mostly last gen games too).

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of the concept. It's made to get you hooked, build up a big library, and you loose access to all of it as soon as you stop paying. I prefer to buy my games. And I don't play enough games to justify the price. At most I play around 10 retail games per year spread across both Nintendo and Sony consoles. Money isn't the issue, time is. So it's not as if I have extra time to play the other ''free'' games anyway

As of now, I'd only be interested in Game Pass since you can actually download the games. Count me in for PS Now if they ever allow you to do the same.

But yeah, if this were ever to happen if would be very cool. I'd love to play at least Rare Replay. Microsoft being open to cross platform play and not restricting their games to just Xbox makes this a slight possibility. It would probably never happen with Sony, which I can understand. Sony just needs to more open to cross network play.

I think they both need developing a little more. Nintendo Online seems to be a similar service with an expanding library of games available to access for a subscription. In my mind, until we know more, that is basically both PS+/PSnow or GWG/Game Pass linked together, just with far fewer games. If Nintendo were to expand their library (and perhaps include third party) then I would be prepared to not only subscribe but also pay more to ensure the breadth of titles are there and the service is up to scratch. So, in summary, I believe Nintendo Online is the equivalent of Game Pass et al. It is a lot cheaper, but that is reflected in the number of games and service offered. If both were increased, and understanding the price would have to as well, I would sign up. As it is now, that's a no from me.

No. The whole point of me building up a gigantic backlog across about 10 systems is so that when the day comes when physical dies, I can plunder my library at will.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

Assuming that they're both streaming services? (Otherwise all of the XBox games would somehow have to be ported)

No. I already own all the hardware necessary to play those games, and most of the software that I'm interested in. But if I did not own the consoles I would definitely consider it. It's far from my preferred way to play, but the convenience of all those games on one system would be hard to pass up.

Game Pass is fabulous on Xbox One and Gold is the best online console service. However, how would Nintendo do it? Nintendo Online seems to be a stripped-down version of Gold-Game Pass, with basic online functionality and only NES games.

Nintendo is more casual and I don't see this as a negative thing. Online has been not wonderful but free on Wii and Wii U so I wonder how will people react to Nintendo's paid service. Besides, Switch is a hybrid console and many people use it as a handheld so you wouldn't be always online anyway and you'd still be paying for playing NES games and a few online games.

I have times when I hardly touch any console for months. It doesn't feel good to pay a fee in these months when I don't use the service. Therefor I prefer to buy my games or to pay a smaller fee over a larger period in time. I know 100 bucks a year is the same as 8 bucks a month, but my psychology tells me to prefer the first

And...

Not quite. The difference being that Xbox Game Pass offer all major 1st party titles that are already released or will release in the future. The equivalent of that with Nintendo would be to offer games like Zelda BOTW, SMO, XC2.....you get the point. Instead what Nintendo will do is keep all the latest 1st party stuff as it is and only offer NES and SNES games (and hopefully N64 and GC in the future). Technically Nintendo Switch Online is a new type of Virtual Console-Streaming model with online services.

Not a streaming service like PS Now but XB Game Pass probably yes dependent on the titles offerred. In recent years I have identified a new type of game purchase for me, games I’d like to play at least once but not own. In the past I used to rent but most places have closed down. So now I wait until I can get digital for £4-£8. Such a thing could be covered by a Game Pass style sub.

My only concern is that publishers may wise up to this and only allow games predominantly multiplayer onto the service.

Sisilly_G

I would be extremely reluctant only because the games included in the service would be quite large, and we're not yet in a position to be able to buy microSD cards in excess of 500GB... yet...

A magazine/newspaper style subscription/delivery service where pre-determined games get shipped to one's home would be amazing... but unrealistic. Really unrealistic.

@toiletduck : It's only starting?

If it's the same games that are currently on Xbox Games Pass, then yes, and I would probably sell my Xbox as well as to have everything available from that, would be enough for me.

It would have to be streaming service to be able to play the games, which would cause a problem when out and about, but I think it would be worth it.

I also think that this is the way that MS is going to go with it. They have just created a team which is looking into the streaming services, and getting them on other platforms. So it wouldn't surprise me that with the relationship that Nintendo has with MS that they allow this.

Imagine playing State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, Forza games etc all through your Switch?

I'd love Forza Horizon 4 on Switch, but it wouldn't work. You could only control the car at one consistent speed instead of varying speeds. That is, unless, Nintendo releases new Joy con with "proper" triggers.
