Topic: I like FAST RMX, but I still yearn for F-ZERO

So,

on the last day of the GO DIGITAL SALE I grabbed FAST RMX, as my craving for a futuristic racer still got unanswered from Nintendo. While I really like FAST RMX so far, it still is just a band aid on the itch for a new F-ZERO, especially since the latter comes with so much nostalgia, like being able to steer the cockpit of the Blue Falcon as Captain Falcon, the Golden Fox as Dr. Stewart, the Wild Goose as Pico and the Fire Stingray as Samurai Goroh. I think you already guessed that I had my first run in with F-ZERO on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and I gotta admit from here on out I was hooked. While my time with FAST RMX is so far brief, it still struck me with awe, but also with the desire to have Nintendo bring back the F-ZERO franchise. Though I have no feeling if they contract Shin'en to do so, or do it more or less inhouse.

Don't get me wrong. FAST RMX got everythinga good futuristic racer needs. Great tracks where you have to decide if you go full speed, or to not put the pedal to the metal and the phase switchting only adds to mastering the tracks so you can take advantage of it. What I also like on FAST RMX, that while it has more a cleaner WipeOut feel, it does not have the power-ups, which makes the race all about your skills. In addition the Three three track cups make it a wonderful game to even play on short commutes, a strength that gets used to in a lot of games developed with the Switch in mind (Octopath Traveler comes to mind, where in each screen there is at least one or two saves, so you can easily pick it up for short bursts). Also I really like that (at least for the subsonic league I am currently playing to get used to the tracks) you don't need to be 1st place on every track so far and mostly can reach a 1st place in the selected cup, by just mainting good positions on two tracks and can slack off on more difficult tracks. I assume going into the higher leagues the game will be more punishing, but this is just a nice testament that you can be just eased in.

The only two gripes I have are; first, that some obstacles that can wreck your vehicle are a trial and error thing and while they are logical, with the speed I just wished that Shin'en would make it more clear that those are a thing to best avoid. Second, that it feels too clean in comparison with the likes of F-ZERO and closer to WipeOut. The characters and tie ins to the tracks are missing to completely satisfy my F-ZERO hunger and replace it, but that is just a flavor aspect and other people might welcome the change that it does not try to just copy F-ZERO, but strikes out to be it's own thing.

From what I've played so far I find the price tag of 20,00 € / $ 20.00 (and other prices if you live in other countries) more than fair and with it being less than 1 GB a worthy download title at a bargain that will be able to keep you entertained, even if you missed the GO DIGITAL sale.

However and I know I am reaching here, I still would love to see F-ZERO on this E³, but I said it last E³ and the E³ before... so in the meantime I take what I can get and cherish the time with FAST RMX, while in between I look at the horizon and dream what could be...

What is your take on FAST RMX and do you still hold out for a new entry in the F-ZERO franchise, or did you already part with that idea?

I got fast rmx in the sale. Really enjoying it! The graphics, sense of speed and track variety are all top notch. Horizon chase turbo and steamworld quest are competing for my attention at the same time though, currently. Loving those too! I have only played F zero on gba... I can't really remember it too well :/ I remember enjoying it at least! The love fans have for the series is contagious. I'd love for their wishes to be granted and a new entry in the series unveiled. Here's hoping it doesn't take too much longer

@Tangerine I would recommend you to go for F-ZERO on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, because it's still wildly available and if you can, sprint for F-ZERO GX (some tout F-ZERO X as one of the best, but I'd wager F-ZERO GX is en par and has more graphical fidelity). F-ZERO on Super Nintendo Entertainment System plays more like the Game Boy Advance titles, so you would feel right at home. .

Thanks for the recommendations I have a snes mini which I still haven't gotten around to opening. I'll definitely check out f zero first, when I finally boot it up!

I think it is safe to say that F-Zero is on a lot of Nintendo wish lists. I could see them announcing one for next year. This year we are getting Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Legend of Zelda, Luigi's Mansion, and Mario Maker as the major first party releases, next year ought to be interesting because aside from Metroid not a lot of major Nintendo IP are left. I wouldn't be surprised if 2020 has F-Zero, Star Fox, Pikmin and Metroid Prime.

@Tangerine In that case, have fun!

@Heavyarms55 You are onto something, I guess, especially with Nintendo saying, they will heavily lean on their 2018 line up (Nintendo is not in need of using the E³ for out of blue announcements, as some Directs showed); though I still guess they will show the odd surprise and I at least hope for a teaser from Nintendo for 2020. I would be happy to even wait until 2021, with the knowledge one is def. coming...

@Lemmy_the_Koopa I mean, I am sure they will announce some new things at E3, but I do imagine most of the videos will be for games coming this year.

I still think they should AT THE VERY LEAST remake GX. Maybe the Sega connection makes that somehow difficult, I don't know. But GX with some HD updates and some online and a few other things would probably be worth full price for the fanbase.

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive
