Topic: I figured out this whole Pokemon Snap Labo thing

Labo is perfect for this kind of thing because it can be easily integrated with any physical game release. Think about it, they can just easily bundle the cardboard cut-outs for the camera with a physical copy of the game, or any game at that. It's an easy way to bundle a dedicated accessory with any game that hardly costs them anything.

There's no Pokemon Snap Labo thing to figure out.

It's just a possible future Labo toy that happens to be a camera.

Likely because one of the joycon has a camera, so it is a logical next step for this line.

@Meowpheel I think they were just showing possibilities for different game bundles after the first two Labo bundles. My point being that it would be an easy way to include a dedicated accessory.

@JayJ Labo is brilliant, Nintendo caught me completely off guard, and yes this can be a creative and easy way to add accessories to games. Labo is a must buy for me, Will be enjoying this with my Kids.

I really don't want cardboard accessories to be default for major releases such as Pokémon. Labo should just be its own thing with dedicated software designed for use with Labo kits.

If there is to be an accessory with Pokémon Snap 2, it better be a cute non-cardboard camera or a Joy-Con containing an actual camera for AR gameplay.

I like Labo but it should remain a product line of its own. If card boxes were to be implemented with other games it would look rather cheap in my opinion. To me Labo is nothing more than a fun project about crafting robotics. It's definitely not the new way of playing videogames.

Yeah, unlike the plastic Z-Rings they made for Pokemon Sun and Moon. Those were really high quality lol

Yeah, but think again... A Z-bracelet made from card board instead of cheap plastic, I think there's still a difference

As cool as it would be, Nintendo would get a lot of flack for cheapening the quality of their peripherals.

Besides, plastic is much more durable than cardboard. I'm sure my cardboard camera would get really gross from all of the sweat, grease, and food stains .

Seems like there's a lot of potential there. Can't wait to see what they do with it.

I think the point of Labo is that you're interacting with physical objects that you've created yourself. I can't see how that would make sense for even something like Pokemon Snap. In general if the physical object itself isn't a large part of the appeal it shouldn't be done that way.

For example the Piano, probably the most compelling of these objects on first glance. It's literally a piano that you interact with, that's pretty much the entire appeal of it. The accessory is the game. By comparison Pokemon Snap would be primarily a game about taking pictures of virtual Pokemon. You don't need the accessory for the game to work.

Now if they come up with an idea like Donkey Kong Jungle Beat? Then sure. But other than that I don't think they should expand the idea much beyond simple toys you create. Some people have said that the next Zelda should have Labo for example, I don't think that's a good idea.

Well, to be fair, an game in the stlye of Pokemon Snap would work extremely well using this camera toycon.

Since the screen is likely in the back of the camera, it could be used as a digital camera display to show the gameplay. With all the sensors and stuff in the joycon it would be very accurate in reading your movements. Specially since one is horizontal while the other one is vertical, and the ir camera is out front, able to help keep things calibrated.

In fact that's very likely at least one of the modes the camera game will have. I just doubt it'll be a literal Pokemon Snap.

@Meowpheel
The Joycon can track movements just fine without the box. The main thing the Camera ToyCon is probably going to add is a more realistic action for zoom/focus and an actual camera (of sorts) with the IR camera. I'm not sure either would add much to Pokemon Snap. There being an actual camera in particular kinda defeats the point of Pokemon Snap.

@Nicolai Even plastic gets gross if you handle it that way lol. I know cardboard isn't as durable but it is a lot cheaper and it would make for a fun little accessory that can be easily packaged for next to no additional cost, where as a full on plastic camera for your Switch joycons would probably cost a lot more.

At the end of the day it would just be there as an optional way to play the game, kind of like using motion controls in ARMS. You don't have to do it but it would probably be a lot of fun for some people.

Eel

@skywake well, yes, there's a camera in the controller, however this is Nintendo, they won't limit themselves to making just a simple camera app.

This set up opens nice and interesting ways to play, along with being able to be used as a literal camera (assuming the ir camera can be used as a regular camera, I'm not so sure), and a night vision camera at that (as the rc car toycon shows).

Again, I highly doubt it will be used for literal pokemon snap, I'm just saying that a gameplay concept similar to that of pokemon snap would work very nicely with this toycon, and it would enhance the gameplay in more ways than just "it looks more like a camera".

Hahahahahahaha no.

They had a controller that seemed MADE for a camera gimmick known as the Wii U gamepad, and everyone, EVERYONE, I saw at some point suggested that it would be brilliant to use for a Pokemon Snap sequel. And it never happened. If it wasn't going to happen on the Wii U, it's never going to happen.

We will get a Mother 4 before we get a Pokemon Snap 2, at this point.

I just think something like Pokemon Snap makes more sense as a standalone $10-20 eShop title. It's not really improved with Labo. If it's one of the minigame for the camera? Sure. But not the other way around.

Btw the ir camera is a camera it's just not colour. It's basically the same as the camera on the Wii Remote but with the addition of ir leds. So you could use it as a camera of sorts.

@skywake I have been saying since my first post in this thread that it won't be a Pokemon snap, really, every post.

It's not color, but hey at least a night vision camera is cooler than that.

They absolutely should make another Pokemon Snap for Switch, and I certainly wouldn't mind a Labo tie in! Really all the game needs is gyro aiming, though.
