It's been confirmed for US Switch launch day release, I'm hoping it will pop up on the UK launch day too.

Its a eShop only release. Well, its better than nothing.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

My sentiments exactly. I would have preferred it in physical format, but beggars can't be choosers.

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

Yeah why release your game by affordable means when you could just not release at all?

Surely the medium is secondary to the quality of product.

See, that's what I was going to ask. I've been reading up on lots of reviews of the game, and boy - people are all over the place. More than usual. Some outlets seemed to pretty much HATE the game, and then others LOVE it.

I think it was Gamespot that said the characters were shallow and lame, but then Easy Allies said the characters were amazing and extremely deep. Same thing goes with the combat, setting, etc. I don't know whom to believe!!!

Yea, it looks pretty fantastic, and I guess the differing reviews just point towards it being a person-by-person sort of thing. I'm definitely going to give it a shot.

Except, for all of us that don't live in a eshop supported area means having to get (from a third party seller) a prepaid card to add funds to the eshop, which means either paying overcharge - a $20 card is $30 here - or getting the prepaid card online from the US.

That's why its a pain, not everyone lives in the United States.

Getting it physical means I don't have to deal with exchange rates, overpricing or any of that stuff. I merely go to the store and get it for the normal price games have here.

Its what I usually do when I want to buy an eshop exclusive. I didn't knows Amazon was selling online codes though, I usually got them from Walmart so I'll check it out!

I shouldn't have sounded so aggresive... But I have to admit it pisses me off when people asume why some prefer physical media versus digital releases. In that aspect, Nintendo is far behind Sony and Microsoft.

My husband, who's much more of a western RPG fan, played this and really enjoyed it. His favorite things were the combat and the music/atmosphere.
The only other JRPG that I know he's played is Bravely Default, which he loved.

I have a feeling if you like this sort of genre, the game will be enjoyable.

Kind of the opposite, from what I've seen - the genre savy online folk I've talked to have made a ton of negative comparisons to FFX, while criticizing the combat, which is apparently overly easy, but skills are poorly(?) spread between characters, I guess. Granted, I'd compare it more to Journey to the West, after watching some videos, but that might just be me.

I heard that the combat abilities are crazy unbalanced. Like certain skills/combos are just insta-win further on in the game.

Wait... not everyone lives here in the U.S.??? (just joking)

As a huge Chrono Trigger fan, I can confirm this game is an enjoyable throwback. It's a very old-school game; punishing, fairly non-linear, and requires a bit of grinding. It's a culmination of beautiful art direction accompanied by a solemn piano-only soundtrack propelled by an engaging story.

If there is a potentially fatal flaw to this game, it would be that it is vehemently fixed on the nostalgia/retro JRPG market. It doesn't do anything new. In fact, nearly everything it does is old. What it does do however is executed flawlessly.

Anyway, I'll probably buy it to play it again on the Switch.

It is interesting that between reviews I've seen before and what I've read here, 80% of reviews of this game seem to contradict each other in some way.

I had a similar thing happened when I saw people compare and contrast Demon Souls and Dark Souls.

Was hoping there would be an English Asian physical version to import, but can't find anything. Just JP

I'm disappointed there is no physical release over in the UK, so whether I get this game at launch depends on if I've purchased a large SD card that works with the Switch. I do want the game at launch (even though I'll be playing Super Bomberman R all day long), but I also want to avoid the situation where I'm having to switch out an SD card constantly like I have to with my 3DS.

As I don't plan on downloading anything but digital exclusives, and as digital downloads are usually a strong deterrent to me, I think one large SD card should last me the entire lifetime of the Switch.

I'm looking forward to finally playing I Am Setsuna, and I'm loving how much JRPG love the Switch is getting.

I would be down for this, but I've got an unopened Chrono Trigger (DS) sitting on my shelf, and given how many references I've seen to Chrono Trigger when looking at this game, I don't want to depreciate my Chrono Trigger experience, so this will have to wait a while.
