Topic: How will Nintendo make it up to Wii U owners?

I can see Nintendo putting out Gamecube backwards compatibility, with games requiring a gamecube controller or classic controller, not pro as pro is straight buttons.

Yeah, I'm very happy with my Wii U. It's easily second favorite console (just behind the GameCube) and I still see myself playing it for a long time. The Zelda delay is for the best, really... because then it's more likely that a) more people will get to play it and b) Nintendo's costs will be covered much better than if Zelda U was just on the Wii U.
I'm just a bit angry that Nintendo themselves entered panic mode with the Wii U... and while I love the GamePad, it hasn't been utilized the way I wanted it to be. Aside from a few tiny flaws here and there, I'm so glad I'm a Wii U owner.

God first.

At this point, just add a whole bunch of Wii, GameCube, N64, and SNES games to the VC. (At least all of Nintendo's games since third party is out of the question for the most part). Also add GameCube controller support through the GameCube adapter for all VC games.

That's a good idea. That way I can rebuy all the games I already own on the Wii U in preparation of rebuying all my Wii U games on the NX!

@Yellowkoopa: I don't know how expensive it is to port the games. The idea that once you buy a game, you get a free download on everytime they release a new system isn't feasible. x86 will probably last for a while, but I wonder for how long. Anyway, Nintendo let everyone pay for the games to be transfered between Wii and Wii U. Now they have to port them to the NX, I'm pretty sure we're going to have to pay again, because this time it's actually going to take some effort to get them running on NX. At least for the newer games. Emulation is the solution for every game that came out before 2000. It would be a nice gesture, but I'm not counting on it.

@Grumblevolcano: 9? But isn't it coming out next March? And it's April now, so... ??? I'm confused lol I guess we could say 10 months and be a little generous?

@skywake: I REALLY hope it's not the end of Nintendo. I hope they use this time to really nail down their strategy. They just need to reset, introduce a new family of consoles, and get the good games out to us.

@rallydefault: The giant drought begins after Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE so that's 9.

Well, I'm glad to see the positivity in this thread. Though I started this thread, I do agree that the big N mostly doesn't owe me anything. We made a transaction, I hand over my money, and get a game console and can play whatever games are available at time. But you know, perception does matter. We just saw the news that Nintendo is still actively working on 3DS games, but we can assume no premium stuff will come out for the Wii U. It may make business sense, but in the meantime there's the long period with no NX and no Wii U goodies ... while Nintendo continues to play favorites with its older sibling. Never mind, I still have lots of games to play.

What I'm most bummed about, though, is the Zelda U delay. Now there, I believe Nintendo owes me, because they promised. Think about it. A game company decides to delay a promised Wii U exclusive to make it available for another console. Sounds familiar? It's the Rayman Legends scenario, for which Ubisoft took a lot of heat. But Ubisoft delayed Legends only a few months, and tried to compensate irate fans with some additional goodies. Yet Ubisoft's reputation is still in the sewers. Now Nintendo is today's Ubisoft. What are they going to do about it?

I have to stand behind the opinion that Nintendo owes us nothing.

Look at PS Vita. Or any post-Genesis Sega console. That is how competitors treat their fans when a platform fails. They jump ship at the earliest sign of trouble and say tough luck.

Nintendo is the only one who stood by their failing console for five long years. They could've jumped ship back in 2014 and left us eating dust. But they didn't. They have consistently released quality software on this system for the span of an entire generation, despite the glaring and obvious truth that they were losing in doing so.

There is nothing to make up. They have proven that if you buy a Nintendo product they will stand by it through thick or thin. They have earned my trust. I will buy an NX day one because I know that no matter what happens Nintendo will support that console to the uttermost. Can't say I feel the same way about PSVR after what Sony pulled just 2 years after I purchased a Vita.

And good grief, $300 in credit? That's more than many people even paid for the system to begin with.

Nah, man, paying out the equivalent of $3.6 billion in digital game sales is a totally fair price to assuage gamer entitlement.

Hey, you ever consider our invitation to the chat? Don't feel pressured or anything, we were just wondering...

@Grumblevolcano: Uh...what? The drought begins NOW, man. I don't know if you have early access to games or something, but I've pretty much got nothing big new on my eShop page aside from Star Fox.

@rallydefault:
Well, Star Fox and Star Fox Guard just released. Just days ago in fact. And Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii VC) for us North Americans, and a new Mario vs DK (Mini Mario Amiibo Challenge). So it doesn't feel right saying there's a drought now when we just got 2 high caliber games the other day and one of the best games from Wii, and a nice, free little puzzle game. In 24 hours it'll be May. And I believe Mighty No 9 releases in May (finally), with Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Lego Star Wars and Mario & Sonic following in June. Not sure when Color Splash will release but, think they said summer? Idk.

It's gonna be a tad sparse, no doubt, but we do at least have a few games to look forward to in the near future yet (personally, I don't care much for Lego games although I may try this one- past Lego Star Wars is highest rated Lego game to date so this one may be worth watching), particularly #FE and Color Splash.

There is a drought coming though. That is unavoidable. Hopefully Nintendo plugs the gap with a few releases here and there, even if smaller digital titles or VC.

I was having fun with that suggestion. Hey, it would technically cost Nintendo nothing out of pocket, and would be a cool way to get Wii U owners to upgrade to the NX.

But as I said, I'm most frustrated with the Zelda U delay. Never mind the $300 credit, I'll take a Zelda U release on time. Nintendo is pulling a Ubisoft here. I can understand they have a business need to do this, but they should understand that this is a blatant instance of broken promises that does not sit well with those who believed them.

While I don't think they owe us anything, I think they should offer Zelda NX for free to those that buy the U version. More as a nice bonus than anything else.

Peek-a-boo

I don't think they owe us anything, even though the Wii U is sunsetting earlier than any of my previous home consoles.

I do think they owe us long-term fans in regards to the whole Virtual Console stuff, and by that I mean allowing us to carry over our purchases on the 3DS and/or Wii U to the NX.

I will not be paying a penny if I have to repurchase the Virtual Console games! and some that I have admittedly bought more than once.

The absolutely brilliant PlayStation cross-buy scheme shows that it can be done, and has been happening for the past four or five years too.

Saying that, new 3DS owners have had to buy SNES games again, whether they own the very same game(s) on their Wii U or not so, I don't hold out much hope for this to happen...

@JaxonH: So do you think the March 2017 announcement is a lie to get investors to shut up and the actual release ends up being holiday 2017 then?
