Topic: How to buy games with PayPal balance, WITHOUT credit card?

I am trying to buy Golf Story from the eShop. I really like that they're offering an option to pay with PayPal. However, When trying to link my Nintendo account with PayPal, it will always ask me to register a credit card.

I have double checked that my nintendo account is registered as an US account, and so is my PayPal account, so there is no country mismatch.

Just for fun, since I also have a European-registered PayPal account, I have tried to use a European nintendo account and link it with my European PayPal. Same problem, it will ask me for a credit card after logging in to PayPal.

Is it really not possible to pay with PayPal balance?

I don't have a definite answer, but if it's anything like Sony, it isn't possible. They don't accept PayPal balances and it seems stupid to me.

Maybe you can purchase an eShop gift card via PayPal Digital Gift Card and use the PayPal balance to get one. I know I purchase several eShop gift card (digital ones) via PayPal Digital Gift Card using my PayPal account, but it's not via PayPal balance.

Give a try and see if will accept.

Yes, this works. I went to gamestop.com, bought a $20 nintendo eshop gift card using my paypal account, and it took it from my paypal balance. Then used the code to buy a game on my switch. so, it's a bit of the long way around, but you can buy games without a credit or debit card on the eshop.
