It's been a good time now that SMP has been out. To be quite honest, I fell into the hype of the games release and after spending a few hours getting all except for one gem I'm pretty disappointed. It might just be me, but I felt like the game lacked context. Let me know what you guys think about the game

Have you played other MP games? What do you miss exactly? I haven't played SMP yet so I am curious. Is fun playing the boards like in old MP games? Do you like the mini games?

And this couldn't have gone in the already existing thread for Super Mario Party, why?

Super Mario Party isn't suppose to be some incredibly deep 100+ hour epic. It's a party game, pure and simple. That mean's it doesn't need a deep storyline, and it doesn't have one. The whole premises is "everyone was arguing over who's the true Super Star, again, so they decided to settle it with another Party". The main, or rather only, focus of a Mario Party game is the multiplayer. It can be played solo with 3 computer players, but is best played with friends. Even one other player makes things so much more engaging. Mini-games no longer are a breeze to get first place in (on normal difficulty at least) and you have the unpredictability that comes from a real person playing against you. Not to mention everyone being able to laugh about what's happening in the game.

The various modes all support it being a party game. You have a Sound Stage which is a series of rhythm based games, the basic Party mode which is board game format, Partner Party which mixes things up a bit for 2v2 matches, River Survival which is a co-op mode, and the various "random mini-games in a row" modes.

The mini-games are generally rather stupid, but also fun and amusing. Which looks to be par for course. The motion control based ones (which there are a lot of) work very well. Much better then I understand the Wii era Mario Party's motion controls worked. And while there could have been more boards for Party mode, the Partner Party versions mix things up enough to feel different and unique. And there may be updates that give more boards in the future, we don't know.

I was considering buying two copies, one for me and one for me daughter at college, she loves the Party and Smash games and I was considering playing with her on Party, but Nintendo forcing you to buy Direct just to play with others online and can't play in handheld mode, no chance in hell I'll be playing now, too bad

@BlueOcean What I miss the most would have to be the quality of game play. I've played every single MP game since the N64 one. The boards in SMP are not only short, but very dull in my opinion. The only thing I can give SMP good credit for is the mini-games, which there is a small handful of fun ones

Any board games are kinda Dull for me if the games don't offer something wonderful to stay in games until finished.
I understand the feeling of during Monopoly / Snake & Ladder / Ludo / any Board games = Bored to wait.

Playing board games in general is a social thing more then a competitive thing. Take that social aspect away, and you remove much of the fun. Same with party games like Super Mario Party. While it's fun and amusing to play single player against 3 computer opponents, its far better if you have actual people playing with you. And that's again due to the social aspect.
