Put this way Sega isn't Nintendo-go complain to Sega.

I would buy the Sega Genesis collection in a heartbeat for Switch. No reason to buy it for one of the other consoles though, since I can already play all these games on my TV anytime.

I own the collection on Steam, and I'd gladly buy it again for Switch. The idea of playing Phantasy Star on the go makes a strong case for a port.

Would love to see this on Switch too, though I'm also in wondering if Sega is waiting for Nintendo's new iteration of the Virtual Console. I'm still hoping that the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, with its classic game collection, will include more than NES. One of those hopes is that it'll not only include Nintendo titles, but perhaps Sega (Arcade, Master System, Megadrive/Genesis, etc) titles as well. Here's to dreams.

It would be great for Sega games to Port to Switch but that is something Sega Team must decide but I would say it wouldn't hurt Sega and it actually will put more interest in their Games. And if they do some upgrade graphics that will more or less get Sega Gamers coming to NS. Limiting whom they made or Port to isn't a smart move but diversity will help them garner more market shares allowing more R&D to Gamers.

Good news today. The Sega Genesis Collection that PS4 and Xbone got earlier this year is coming to Switch.

Anyone else feel it's weird that Sega Genesis games will be playable on a Nintendo console?

As someone who grew up in the SNES vs. Genesis era, it does feel awkward.

But not so much after having played the various 3D ports of Genesis games Sega offered on the 3DS.

@FaeKnight They were there on the Wii. Great collection of games

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

So far on Switch, we've got a huge range of individual arcade games from the 80's/90's/2000's, we've got collections in SF30th, Beat em up bundle, Namco Museum and soon SNK Collection. We've got the Atari collection on the way too. We've got the Mega Man collections which covers NES and SNES games plus all those NES games on the way. We've got a couple of Dreamcast titles in Zero Gunner 2 and Ikaruga. We've got games that were once Playstation 1&2 exclusives in Crash Trilogy plus several Final Fantasy's on the way. We've got remastered versions of GameCube, Wii, 360 and PS3 titles in FF Crystal Chronicles, De Blob and Dark Souls. We've got plenty Wii U ports which I don't need to name. Last of all we've got several ports of PS4 and One games such as Doom.Of all the main players in the home console industry over the last 30 years, Nintendo, Atari, SEGA, Sony, Microsoft, the only console I can think of that's not represented on Switch is the good old 64.

Edit, I meant to mention the original Xbox, we've got that Ode's Odyssey or whatever it's called on the way. But there is one I've forgotten, the Saturn. SEGA Ages will likely cover that though. The Mega CD and 32X don't count as they were add ons

@OorWullie You're right. There aren't enough C64 games on the Switch. Paradroid first!

I'm just glad we dont have to piecemeal games anymore. The popular games are the ones that tend to put in these collections (and in VC as they aren't usually licensing nightmares) so this cuts out the middle man. VC was always a great idea hampered by red tape. If you could just go "Hey lets dump all the games from each VC system on to the current system" then VC would have been amazing...but its really "Lets put the stuff that we have always been able to sell in other ways and a few obscure games onto VC...the rest we can't get rights to, thanks!" Which is why I love the idea of VC but its one of the things that you can't make it work as intended unless you are a pirate. This isn't Nintendo's fault, just the legal way of things.

@GrailUK Haha, I didn't think about the old Speccy, Commodore 64 and Amiga until half way through writing my comment. That's why I specifically mentioned home consoles or my comment falls apart. I always thought of those as more computers than consoles. The Amiga is covered with D-generation but the Speccy and 64 are not, unless you count ports of Renegade, Double Dragon etc... I was thinking of games that actually originated on each console.

@OorWullie Have you seen all the old games Team17 have been posting on Twitter to celebrate their anniversary. Hope they manage to put some sort of compilation together

@GrailUK Just had a wee look. Some great looking games and yep a collection would be superb. Project X looks very familiar to me but it never received a home console release. I must have played it on my mates Amiga.

It was weird when SEGA started to release games like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for Gamecube after they went out of the hardware market. But I borrowed the game from a friend and it was the first Sonic game I really liked. Soon after I bought my own SEGA games for the Gamecube. Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II and Skies of Arcadia Legends which we played for many hundred hours! In the next years I added the fantastic Super Monkey Ball 2 and mindblowing F-Zero GX to my Sega Gamecube collection, along with another interesting but extremely short and rather forgettable title: Evolution Worlds.

So, I was already used to get SEGA games when the Wii launched with Mega Drive games in the Virtual Console. One of the first Wii Virtual Console games I bought was Gunstar Heroes for the Mega Drive because I love Mischief Makers on the N64. From that point onwards I bought many more games for the Mega Drive. Alien Soldier and Light Crusader are absolute favourites of mine! I bought everything that looked like something I would have played had it been released on the SNES back in the day. I fondly remember games like Landstalker, Gain Ground, and the Wonder Boy series that I played and completed for the first time on Wii. I also got a couple of Master System games, mainly to play the other Wonder Boy games.

With such a history the feeling of it being weird has worn off long ago.

Will second that, even though I already have Paradroid and Uridium, along with Boulder Dash and Last Ninja 123 on the Wii Virtual Console. But yeah, let's release some C64 exclusives! I'm still waiting for Wizball and Gribbly's Day Out and a Last Ninja 3 fix! There should also be some time to make some real classics like Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken, Project Firestart, Turrican and Turrican II available.

Good. Hopefully this means that SEGA Ages focuses on games not on this collection (yeah I know theyโ€™d be enhanced but Iโ€™ll take quantity over quality personally, especially for this price).

@FaeKnight Yep. I grew up during the console wars. "Sega sucks".

Played a genesis like 3 times so being a dumb fanboy obviously.

Still weird. Just like seeing Crash on Nintendo...

I know intellectually that Sega got out of the hardware business years ago, and has thus been bringing their exclusives to other consoles. But still, it's Nintendo. And the old ads of "Sega does what Nintendon't" were very divisive. I remember playing a few Genesis games on occasion (Sonic 1, Jurassic Park, a fighting game called Champions I think, and eventually Dark Wizard for Sega CD). And graphics wise it always blew Nintendo out of the water, but I still ended up favoring Nintendo consoles because they had so many great games. And I just didn't know of many good Genesis games in comparison.

Other than Sonic, my favourite Megadrive game was / is Road Blasters, it's an astonishing conversion.

Shadow Dancer never got the love it deserved either, it was a different game to the arcade version but better for it.
