Hey guys!
So I was looking for some advice on which console and mario game to purchase. I originally dedicated my life to NSMB on the nintendo DS lite (good days!) Now I want to experience the same thrill again but i’m stuck between getting a switch lite with the new deluxe version of the game or simply getting an old 2ds xl or 3ds/ xl console to play NSMB 2, which i’ve never played. Is it worth the extra price for the switch lite and the game that goes with it? I’ve not played any mario platformer since NSMB on Ds lite so i’m really not sure what the best way to go is. I want to experience new levels and new ideas, but having not played NSMB2- is this a decent game or is it worth getting the deluxe version? Same with mario kart really- i’ve not played since I had the Ds lite version so i’m not sure if it’s worth getting the switch one or the one you can play on 3ds. Lastly, is the dragon quest on switch any good in comparison to sentinents of the starry skies back on Ds lite? That’s another title i’d like to update myself with if it’s worth getting , so that might be the final pushing reason to opt for the switch. Any options appreciated !

Dunno about NSMB games, @djdj2828 but DQXI is awesome & I loved Sentinels of the Starry Skies, too....

Thank you @BruceCM ! I adored sentinents of the starry skies so I was just a bit nervous about if the new switch one will live up to it, I think i’ll give it a try!

I'm sure there are plenty of other Switch games you'd like, too, @djdj2828.... Maybe others here can say about the NSMB ones, as well

@djdj2828 : There is also Super Mario Maker 2 which includes a fairly lengthy single-player mode, and that's not to mention the abundance of user-made levels you can download (however, the latter will require a paid NSO subscription).

New Super Mario Bros. U is a lot more enjoyable than NSMB2 though.

@djdj2828 If you have the budget, then I'd say you should definitely go for the Switch bundle, then.
It's not like those 3DS versions are bad choices, because I also had fun with those, but the Switch versions of those series offer SO much more, and I'm not just talking about far superior graphics.

And like @BruceCM already said, there's plenty of other Switch games you'd also like, including Mario-related games. There's of course the new Mario Kart, which definitely IS a big upgrade to the version you've played, and then you've got Super Mario Odyssey, all the Mario sports games, Super Mario Maker, and so on, and so on.

So yeah, my vote definitely goes to the Switch.

If the money difference is not a big concern, I would definitely go for the Switch (Lite) and New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe + Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The 3DS games aren't bad games, it's just that the Switch versions are much better, imo. NSMBU Deluxe is the best of the New Super Mario series; I'd say it has the best and most varied levels, and it also includes the Luigi expansion DLC and the challenges from the Wii U version. Although I will ask, do you have any interest in Mario Maker 2? Because if so, I'd honestly recommend MM2 over NSMBU Deluxe first (unless you prefer traditional Nintendo-made levels).

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is fantastic and is one of, if not the best Mario Kart imo. It has 48 courses total (25 brand new ones, 23 "HD revamped" retro courses (like how Mario Kart DS brought back retro courses), 200cc for an extra challenge, and a very active online community.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for all of your perspectives! As a result i’m gonna go for the switch lite as the new deluxe version of mario bros definitely sounds like it’s worth trying above the older version! Also looking forward to mario kart 8, and super mario maker indeed sounds like a great game so i’ll be looking forward to trying that too, once i’ve completed the first couple games! it’s much appreciated thank you

I recommend New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and then Super Mario Maker 2.

In this order, because NSMBU Deluxe is a bundle of 2 fun games (it includes New Super Luigi U). And both games + the extras can be completed, so you can move on to other games.

Super Mario Maker 2 is endless fun, perfect if you're low on money or just want to play Mario forever.
If you can only get one Mario game this should be it. And, you can also make your own levels, obviously. ^^

@djdj2828 I highly encourage you to get Switch with Mario Maker 2. Even if you have no interest in making your own levels, you effectively have tens of thousands of wonderful user made content, and a full traditional Mario game on top. And with the latest update the game now supports full user made "games" too. Meaning full user crated 8 world Mario games. If you're a big fan of 2D Mario content and looking for a game you can dump dozens of hundreds of hours into, I don't see how you can choose anything else.
