Hello,

I kept hearing about problems with third party peripherals causing the Switch to end up dead, did some more research on it and found out that it uses some kind of non-standard USB-C code to charge itself, thing is I have a third party VGA adapter (no idea whether it's passive or active, but it works), although it works sometimes it makes the dock behave weirdly like the green light constantly stays on and the Switch won't connect anymore, unplugging and plugging the adapter back in solves it, but is this safe? Can I trust this won't fry my Switch?

I could use my monitor's HDMI for it, but i'd prefer not since the Switch isn't 1080p 100% of the time so it's more beneficial for my computer

@myronas16 There is no charging through the HDMI so the worst case with a VGA adapter is that is simply doesn't work. There shouldn't be any risk to your Switch.

The bricking of Switches was specifically because of 3rd party aftermarket docks that the Switch was not compatible with. It wasn't anything to do with the video output.

You should get a monitor that has HDMI input that way you get 1080p output and not have to worry about cabling. I have that setup for my Switch in my Gaming Room my monitor has HDMI, DP, DVI and DP is to the computer and HDMI is to the Switch without output sound to my speakers. And have no issues with the setup when switching(pun) from monitor to Switch input. Not sure what your reading but when Docked the output is 1080p so you got wrong info there. Sounds most likely your monitor can't input 1080p maybe that is why it doesn't work correctly.

No, @myronas16 is completely correct. Not all games output at 1080p, even when docked. The Switch is technically capable, but it is dependent on the game itself. Like BotW being 900 at most.
