Topic: Having a bad feeling about Team Sonic Racing Release Date

Maybe I'm being a little paranoid when I say this, but does anyone else have this feeling that this game will release around the time Fallout 76, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu/Let's Go Eevee releases or even worse: around the time Super Smash Bros Ultimate comes out? I feel like Sega/Sumo Digital will not delay this even if the game is complete. And before anyone say it, no they will not release it the same time the IDW Prequel Comic(which is in October) comes out because 1.) They would have announced the release date by now and 2.) They DEFINITELY will not put this game out the same time as COD: Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 anyway. So unless they put the game out close to the end of December, the sales for this game is going to cripple badly either way( this is not counting the fact that the hype for this game has been almost non-existent since its announcement).

Love All Star Racing and its sequel Transformed. But right now I couldn't care less about Sonic Racing. It seems to take steps backwards. No characters of other Sega franchises, no transformational tracks etc. Let's see what reviews say.

Btw: what prequel comics. I am collecting the Sonic IDW run but haven't heard anything about a prequel comic

This game is not competing for the same audience as Fallout, Red Dead and CoD, so I don’t think it will matter much if it’s released by the same time as any of those.

I suspect that the game was doomed from the start. It looks significantly inferior to the last two games. What were they thinking?

Sega has done far too much damage to the Sonic brand over the years for this to be able to thrive solely on the strength of its fanbase.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

@Silly_G In saying that, the hardcore fanbase does seem to be keeping things afloat. To me, it's a bit of small miracle the franchise survived after Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Usually, an awful game is about enough to keep a series dormant. Heck, in modern times, even somewhat average games like ME: Andromeda is enough to put a series on hold. It's admirable in a way that they've kept Sonic alive. And when you get a true gem of a game like Mania, I think it is worth the effort.

It has been said, this game is not competing for the same audience. A good date would be December before Christmas. I have faith in the developer when it comes to racing games. Even before the studio was created they had already developed racing games.

@NintendoPete Sorry if I can't hyperlink the site right now because I recently just got this computer so I'm still learning how to use the advanced features(also sorry that it took me so long to reply to your comment. I actually started this thread at 2:00 in the morning, so I was too tired to comment at the time and I just woke up at 8:30 am). Now back to the topic, if you look up Team Sonic Racing Comic, it will pop up. The only reason there has been hardly any talk about it is because it was announced at SDCC 2018 and there has been no word of it since.

@JoakimZ @BlueOcean Okay, picture it this way. You have enough money to only buy one game. Let's say Sumo Digital announced the release date and it was October along with the release of the comic book. What is the one game you are going to get? You see what I'm getting at here? Sure there will be some people that will be able to afford getting multiple games at once in one month, but most of the general public is gonna have the same thought(and yes there are kids that actually want to play a game like Red Dead Redemption 2. Trust me I have a cousin that is twelve and she and her friends are gonna buy this game) Of course the dedicated fanbase and some children are gonna gravitate towards this game, but this game is not like Super Mario Party because 1.) that's an exclusive, 2.) there's WAY more hype for that game than Team Sonic Racing , and 3.) If it was to released in the early part of October, I doubt this will outsell games like Super Mario Party and Mega Man 11(okay maybe this one, I guess).
So I agreed with you @BlueOcean, it has to release after Super Smash Bros Ultimate, close to Christmas.

It's already September so at the earliest I think Team Sonic Racing will arrive is November. Spring 2019 would probably be the best for it.

Considering that Sonic's remaining popularity is declining and this is little more than a generic mascot racer, I don't think it'll do much anyway.

@Grumblevolcano Well, I don't know. The early part of 2019 is mostly pack, especially in February and March with games like Metro Exodus, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Kingdom Hearts III, Anthem, Days Gone, Devil May Cry 5, and who knows what else is releasing during that time period. Also, that's not counting what exclusives Nintendo will release during that period either. They might have a Direct in October saying Daemon X Machina will release in January 2019 or that the new Yoshi game and Fire Emblem: Three Houses will release in between February or April, who knows. So this game still got a lot it's going up against.

Slasher

Slasher

@baller478 That's debatable, considering that's more or less an indie game with popular characters from the TV/Film media and TSR is more of a AA game that is base on an iconic franchise(even though as @Bolt_Strike mentioned, the popularity of this series is declining; has been for years now). It will be EMBARASSING if that game sold more than Team Sonic Racing. Not to say that because Nickelodeon Kart Racing will be terrible, it might be good.

I've played the last Sonic Team Racing game, and wasn't impressed. For me October's game to buy is Super Mario Party, and maybe Mario Odyssey if I can scrounge up the money for it too. If not, Odyssey will have to wait till November.

@Slasher I see what you mean but this is the generation with more games ever. If you combine new releases, remasters, remakes and re-releases it's crazy. On Xbox One you have multiple versions of the same games (thanks to backwards compatibility), on Switch you have the Wii U ports, on PS4 the PS3 remasters... Some remasters this generation are top sellers!

So when a new game launches people think, is this a game I can skip, is it a game that I want or is it a game that I want right now?

Each person will react differently and many games will have a chance because there are so many choices and types of gamers. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Smash Bros. fans. Super Mario Party for party games players and families. Mega Man 11 for fans and for "retro" players. Red Dead Redemption 2 for serious open worlds players. Team Sonic Racing for arcade racers players.

If I only had money or time for one I'd get Team Sonic Racing first because I love the genre and it's replayable. I would get Red Dead Redemption 2 when it's discounted because it's an adventure/story game and I can wait. Same for Megaman 11 and I'm fine with Super Smash Bros. 4. Super Mario Party would totally depend on reviews and so on. But of course that's me and Dead Red Redemption 2 is a "I can't wait" game for many people. Same for Smash or Mega Man, I assume biggest fans can't wait. Fortunately, I'm only a desperate fan of a few franchises.

So what game would you buy first?

Well, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is better than most Mario Kart games, so I really doubt that this will be a generic mascot racer.

Better =/= not generic.

@BlueOcean First of all, that depends on what month of games you're referring to. Personally, I can afford multiple games at once in one month, but as a what if: Spiderman for September, Super Mario Party or Red Dead Redemption 2 for October, Pokémon:Let's Go Pikachu/Let's Go Eevee(yes to all you haters; besides, this game will sell like hotcakes anyway. Plus, heavily leaning on this one) or Spyro Reignited Trilogy(love the little purple dragon to death, but I'll most likely have to wait until Christmas or early January for a discount), and Super Smash Bros Ultimate for December. Second, I agree there are many different types of gamers that will gravitate towards a certain game for their needs. Maybe the casual audience will want TSR more than the hardcore fanbase, who knows. Also, don't take it personally and this is my unpopular and probably controversial opinion, but almost every Mario Kart( except for Mario Kart 7, Super Mario Kart, and to a lesser extend Mario Kart Wii) was better. I know I'm gonna get laughed at for that, but that's just me.
P.S: I really like Sonic Racing All-Stars and Sonic Racing All-Stars Transformed so don't take it as me putting them down. Also off topic. Going off on your profile pic, if you was to meet Banjo-Kazooie in real life, what would you do and/or say?

@Bolt_Strike Yes and no. A game can still be viewed as generic to some despite having a better reception than the entry that came before it, but to most when a sequel to that game looks and plays better, that individual will not see it as generic. So your half right.

Slasher

Banjo-

@Bolt_Strike I really don't understand what generic means to you? If it has Sonic characters and Sonic worlds is not generic. Generic would be the fruit racing game released a few months ago or a game designed with an engine default assets like some RPG Maker games.
