About to cross the 70-hour mark--buy this game!

@Pahvi at 70-hours in, I still haven't beaten the last boss, so yeah, it definitely keeps ratcheting up the challenge with new enemies and each subsequent boss you beat, they add another world, and the challenge goes up accordingly.

(The one, big, roadblock I've noted is having the wrong elements to fight a given boss--this can just ruin a run, so it behooves you to make sure you have a diversified set of spells. As one example, I was overloaded on poison spells one run, and one of the bosses is immune to that element. Long story short, It took me nearly FORTY MINUTES of grinding to beat him, and one mistake would have been the end of me.)

@ECMIM glad to hear you're sinking so much time into this game. My copy shold arrive on Thursday. Been picking up tips from here and other forums. Any pointers for my first run?

*Learn the stamina system ASAP! This is what killed this game in a lot of reviews because the game doesn't do a great job of explaining it. Each enemy has a segmented bar with green squares in it, and each melee hit from your toons depletes one of these. When they're depleted, the enemy is stunned for a set period of time (varies by mob). If you don't match your melee attacks to the stamina bar 1:1 you will only knock enemies back a bit (which an be valuable, but is generally nor preferable to a full stun), e.g. the enemy has 2 stamina dots left, but you hit him with a 3-hit melee attack, whcih will knock him back. You either want to hit him with a 2-hit attack or two 1-hit attacks to stun

*You do bonus damage depending on how many hits a mob has taken via your heavy-hitter character (representing by a hit meter above a foe's head), so make sure to take advantage of this and try to end every stun w/ the heavy hitter.

*Spells>abilities. While you want abilities, on balance, you should prioritize spells because they deliver more bang for your buck and give you more meaningful options, particularly with crowd control, which is hugely important as the game progresses.

*While it doesn't matter as much early on, when you get a chance to buy keys, most of the time it seems better to buy the master key rather than individual keys--this, however, is more important as you complete successive runs, as the length of the game invariably means a lot more chests. You can probably get away w/ buying one or two and relying on drops on the first run.

*Don't underestimate the backstab for when things get hectic. Skillful use of it means you can stun-lock certain characters, even certain bosses. A backstab is when your character is returning to 'home' and he hits eneimes on the way back (usually during a lane change). This will refresh any stuns to 100%, and does a tick or two of damage as well.

Those are the things I wish i'd known when I started--let me know how it goes!

Thanks for the pointers! Sounds overwhelming but hopefully satisfying when I get the hang of it

So, after ~72-hours or so, I have finished the main quest:

And I still have a ton to unlock, including stacks of characters and nearly half (@_@) the spells, but I think I'm done for now--suffice it to say, even if I never touch this again, I got my $20 worth (and then some).

@ECMIM Nice! Your prior description that it's a "gamer's game" is, I think the best way to summarize the game. It really is.

The bloody documentation for this game, as previously noted, is just wretched and, AFAIK, there isn't a proper manual to go along w/ the lack of a proper tutorial.

I will give it a try as it seemed to just fade away at launch. Glad to hear it has some kick to it

Unlocked four characters so far - somewhere between 20-25 hours. Very satisfying when a run goes your way and you are mad OP for the final few battles. Really like it and when to get to the end but MK8 and Puyo Tetris areally taking priority now.

I noticed one of the zombie enemy types wears a red hat and overalls. A rather sneaky dig...

I'd also like to point out that when buying spells for your characters, you should consider the slot bonuses. If the spell you get occupies a slot with a bonus, it can get boosted assuming the parameters match. The rogue, for example, can have buff spells in her third slot affect the whole party instead of just one person.

Alone, a force. Together, a force of nature.

Apologies if this has already been discussed but Has-Been Heroes seems to have been glitched in regards the Switch activity log. When I play the game now it takes me offline and doesn't track my gameplay statistics. Is there any hope the developers will fix this?

@Lroy go to the Steam forums and ask the devs---they're pretty responsive.

Cheers. I keep trying to remember to note down the Developer support email address under the menu for the game on the Switch. Think it's + button and then select support.

I was gifted the physical version of the game for my birthday near the end of October. I was thankful but was also thinking that it didn't seem like something I would usually be into. However, since it was a well-thought out gift, I thought I should do the right thing and play it and actually give it enough time to really judge it.

My first hour with the game I cursed it's existence. I remember saying, "this is terrible, I would have never bought this game!"......but for some reason I always wanted to give it one more try. Every single time I played I got a little better. Finally I was able to win a single battle! Next I was able to make it to a boss, followed by actually beating the boss....then actually beating two maps and two bosses! Wow! I don't even know how to describe it better. It's a fantastic game when given an honest chance. I got this on the same day as I got Mario Odyssey and I've been playing this in between sessions of Mario. My preference is to play this on the go to and keeping Mario on the big TV.

Like others, I feel this game gets overlooked.

@dkxcalibur You basically described my exact experience over getting it as part of the bundle with my Switch. I got it with HBH, BotW, and MK8DX, figuring that I'd by the other two games anyways, and it couldn't hurt to get this game basically for free considering the price of the bundle. And then when I FINALLY got through with BotW (for the moment) I actually tried it, thinking it was awful at first. But by now, I've racked up over fifty hours on the game, making it my fourth most played behind only BotW, Splatoon and Odyssey. Pretty impressive for a title with so little fanfare and an incredibly steep learning curve.
