@JRJalapeno Emergency brake locks up the back wheels. Sometimes if you're in a sharp turn, hitting e-brake can get your back end to swing around. I use it in squirrelly situations, usually at lower speeds. (Sometimes at high speed, if you're car is unsettled, a quick tap of e-brake can help settle your car.)
Otherwise, slamming regular brakes while driving straight is the QUICKEST way to slow down, since all wheels brake. Racing logic is: Wheels can grip to steer, or grip break, but doing both can make you lose grip. You can get away with slightly steering & breaking before a turn. And pumping the breaks lets you steer some while braking. After I cut my speed, I briefly coast to turn, that way all grip is focused on steering.
Setting your front suspension slightly softer than the rear helps turn-in grip. And for brake power distribution: I set a slight bias to rear(like 55%rear/45%front). It lets you steer a little bit more when braking. When braking power is 50/50, I find I end up sliding off turns more.
@JRJalapeno If its what I'm thinking, the Switch digital triggers could be working against you, since they are full throttle when pressed (unlike pressure sensitive analog triggers that can apply gentle throttle with a lighter press). Some car classes are ok with switch triggers, some are less forgiving and spin the wheels easily. Traction control can help, or you could try analog stick throttle.
I hanging up my cleats. I got better using the stick on the joycon for acceleration and breaking but I’m still struggling on professional. This is the first racing game that didn’t click for me. The AI seems way too hard. I got too many other games to get to. This game is too unforgiving. 🤬
Have you guys tried playing with motion controls? I've recently discovered that "tilt - steer" option works best for me... left joycon for steering (just like a wheel) and right joycon for accelerate and braking (just like for gas pedals) --> 2 different axis, it's weird but it works ( how i wish i discover it earlier)... by this set up you can adjust your acceleration and steering with fine tuning... you can floor the gas and do a full throttle or tilt a few angle for slower acceleration... braking is also intuitive in this setup
I tried the Touring and Open wheel on career mode, works fine for me in early races... the endurance mode is by far the hardest race i got into, even in level 1... and for the tuner, i just don't know how to drift at all LOL, maybe i'd prefer an arcade racing type of drifting like Burnout than the real thing ... i'm doing professional difficulty btw, might try expert someday...
Anyone tried the new online mode? I've had a few races now and it works brilliantly. I was worried it would be difficult to find opponents but no problems so far. I've had a few full grids, with opponents from all over the world. I had a grid earlier with 8 different nationalities. It has the flags above the car, like Mario Kart which is great. In 'All Disciplines' mode, you never know what's going to come up next, muscle car races in the mountains, time trials on the streets, Formula A races.. It's brilliant.
Damage seems to be on by default and set to high, which can be a good and bad thing. I was taken out on the first corner of the first lap in one race after a German pushed me off the track. I clipped the barrier, lost the side of car and 2 tyres blew. I couldn't believe it, the race wasn't even 20 seconds old. The following race though, I purposefully went after them and eventually caught up and took them out in spectacular fashion, their car was smashed to pieces. I somehow survived it and finished last but I was buzzing from getting my revenge.
If anyone is up for a few races, let me know. I'm not good at it though, so I probably won't be much of a competitor.....unless you retire me at the first corner, then I'm coming for you.
@OorWullie - just given it a try, works very slick with full grids both times.
I was thrown into an endurance race on a reversed track, so was floundering a bit!
Two races, highest finish was 5th, with some of my car still attached to my car by the end. There was a very nice synchronised roll in a gravel trap with another racer at one corner, definitely 10/10 for style.
I'm seriously considering getting a wheel and seat but it's a lot of money just for one game. I struggle with steering with the joycon, getting the right steering angle and maintaining it on corners.
@Mii_duck I got the deluxe hori wheel , and never looked back , smooth cornering , manual gears analogue pedals ... all made easy with steering wheel , its the same wheel as Hori apex for xbox if you wanna see more reviews on it 👍
