New footage!

Ok, this looks really good. Didn't notice any pop in and the frame rate looked solid. I wonder what mode they used for this footage, performance or graphics?

Looks awesome.

EDIT: I guess I want a review of how well the pro controller controls work, which I'm realizing that won't come until embargo is lifted for reviews. I want a good racing game so bad, the suspense just keeps building.

Also just got a response from the devs. The video is graphics mode which only means the gameplay can be even better. What I saw looked fine though if that was indeed 30fps.

On Trials Rising, you can push right analogue stick right to accelerate, or push left to brake. I find pushing right & left to feel WAY more comfortable than pushing up for accelerate. I'm shocked I've never seen any other game do that.

@Woomy_NNYes well in Trials since the direction you're moving in is to the right, it makes a lot more sense intuitively than a game where you're going straight (up)

Holy potatoes! The apparent effort put into this port might make this one of the very few occasions where I break my £10 limit on digital purchases.

I'm so excited that there's a 60fps mode! I hope it hits the target consistently.

@60frames-please
That would be awesome if it could hit 60 frames. I only recall the video saying "higher fps mode". Is there info that says they can hit 60fps in performance mode?

Does this game have weather effects? Not a deal breaker either way, but I don't recall seeing any rain in the videos.

Grid Autosport doesn't have weather effects. That feature wasn't present in the Dirt and Grid games from the PS3/360 generation (Only the F1 franchise had it) and the mobile port stayed faithful to that, which is what's being ported over to the Switch.

Skies can look threatening at times though. I kept waiting for rain and thought it was being held back until I progressed deeper into the game, but it of course never showed up. I still enjoyed my time greatly going through the touring car discipline a few months ago on the 360 though, despite a tinge of disappointment about the absence of rain. Looking forward to returning to the game soon and playing through the DLC and other disciplines like open wheel.

I think Switch fans will be pleased. While I've barely touched a huge chunk of the game (Touring car is just 20% of career mode for the baseline game with four more varieties of racing on top of that like open wheel and sportscar racing, plus all the DLC afterwards), it's quite evident that it's a very nice simcade with just the right blend of arcade and simulation action.

If it at all does justice to the original PC/360/PS3 versions, Switch racing fans are in for a good time. Would love to see it succeed so well that we see a sort of 'best of' port of Dirt 1-3 come to the Switch with all the best parts of those games like the rally tracks, but with the chaff removed like the unpopular X-Games junk that didn't go over well with their fanbase.

Apparently there’s a high res texture pack that will be available for download on launch day. They’re really going all in.

Why did it take three years for us to get a proper racing game on Switch? A lot of racing games have released, and every single one of them have had shoddy resolution in handheld mode, dodgy graphics, framerate issues, etc.

I hope people go out in droves to buy this game, and show the development community how Switch gamers support those who take the time and put in the effort to provide a high quality experience.

@JaxonH Can't argue with that. I've been waiting for a Nintendo platform to get this type of racer for a long time now. That's why I took the whole Project Cars fiasco hurt so hard on the Wii U. I really wanted it to happen.

Codemasters made F1 2018, and going around Manaco doing time trials on PS4 was great. I hope that's an indicator of how well Grid car physics will be. On a side note, I've never driven cockpit view and liked it like as much as in F1 2018.

@Woomy_NNYes Have you tried in car view on Forza 7? I've tried it on a One X, and even with just a bog standard 1080p IPS screen, it's really great.

@gcunit My brother is the one with the Xbox One. After playing so much Horizon 3 & 4 with him, I can't recall if he has Forza 7 or Forza 6. When I have played Forza, I think I felt too handicapped by the restricted view from inside cars, or like the cockpit camera angle is too low to read the track. One of those two reasons made me choose hood, bumper, or 3rd person view. F1 2018 is one of the first games that I've liked cockpit view. I theorized it's because the camera angle didn't feel too low?

When you've done cockpit view in Forza 7, are you doing it all cars? -asking since open wheel cars usually offer more view. I'll definitely give it another try.

One cool thing in F1 2018, in cockpit view you can hear your tires make a dry squeegee-like sound when they drive over rumble strips in corners. And you can only hear it in cockpit view. It's just so cool.
