Topic: Good games for people with sensory processing disorder

Drackmage

I have sensory processing disorder so while I enjoy Breath of the Wild and Mario kart I can only play them on Fridays and Saturdays when it doesn't matter how well I sleep. I would like some suggestions of games that don't have flashing, fast movement or a movable camera. My favourite genre is turn based RPG.

Sorry to hear you have such a debilitating disorder, Drackmage! Lots of games have moving cameras, so while I would recommend the typical puzzle game, there's not much else I can suggest that doesn't have a moving camera that isn't 2D. Stardew Valley comes to mind

@Drackmage
I feel sorry with your condition.
Well, try Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle for Strategic RPG.
You played Zelda Breath of the Wild, so you can try Portal Knights.
Maybe those 2 games can help you.

SuperJoon

Tennis in the face, baseball riot, king odd ball are all good games which doesn’t have much motion, whole thing is on one screen and just involves working out puzzles.

Hope you manage to find something @drackmage 😊

Must be hard going but admire you still maintain your hobby. Must be hard not being able to play what others can. If you don't mind me asking could you tell us more about the condition so we can help you find some new games to play.

The Bridge is very slow paced and almost all in black and white, but the gameplay requires often that you rotate the whole stage and the level design can sometimes get confusing (the point of the game is to avoid being deceived by how the stage look and understand how it works instead) so I'm not sure it is ok but you can try to watch some footage on youtube I guess. Another slow paced game is Thimbleweed park, I don't like it honestly but many other people like it a lot.

I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee

I would recommend World of Goo and Oxenfree (did not play much of both, but both have nice atmosphere and seem pretty relaxed). Opus - The day we found earth is alright for a short little story. I does not have much depth and gameplay, but it sure is a nice little distraction. "This is the police" is kind of a mixture of graphic novel and resource management. It is told really calm and film-noir-like. I liked it a lot, though I didn't manage to finish it. Stardew Valley is probably the most relaxed experience you get on your Switch. Maybe don't get befriended with the blue-haired girl too much. She has really psychedelic "friendship sequences". But you can avoid her pretty easily. I found Gold Story to be relaxing aswell, but there always are camera-movements to give you overviews over the course (and of course the movement of the ball itseld) of which I am not sure how annoying they really got.
I also recommend Thimbleweed Park as an adventure game.
Unfortunately there are no RPGs that currently come to minde, but I agree that maybe Mario&Rabbids might be for you (again if the camera movement does not bother you).
At the moment I am playing Night in the Woods and I really love it and would also recommend it to you (but I am not that far in and do not know if things get more hectic/bright/stroboscopic/... further in...maybe someone else can tell?).
And finally I recommend Human Resource Machine, if you are into puzzles. Did not manage to finish this one either, but it was fun as far as I got.

Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.

Would Picross be a good fit?
If you don't know any better, the series doesn't look like much at all, but it's one of the most addictive puzzle series I have played in my nearly 40 years of doing so.
Just this week I perfected every puzzle on Picross S after a good 50 hours. So it's a lot of bang for your buck as well.
Can't go wrong with the regular series or with Picross 3D on 3DS and the regular DS.
All of them are brilliant.

@Drackmage: Hi, I have OMA(Ocular Motor Appraxia). When I was little, my doctor told me to go ahead, & play games to help improve my side-to-side tracking vision. I can recommend the VC (version of) Super Mario RPG. I never owned it, when I owned a SNes. I did download it for Wii VC, years ago. It does have some *flashing", like many 8, & 16-bit games had. There are action segments, but the camera is static(still).

Tetris is another good one.
