Looking for advice on games and accessories for the switch please, my son is only 4 so the games i am going for the now are minecraft he already plays this on his ipad, mario kart 8, the mario game I forget what its called are kirby. Is there any other games that would be good for his age ? Looking at maybe two more games.
Also what accessories would you recommend? Should i get a controller and also seen the steering wheel type controller for mario kart ? And should i get a charging station?
I have no idea how these switches work and whats good to go with them so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't bother with a charging station, it charges in the dock that comes in the package which connects the switch to the TV. I would also reccomend grabbing an extra pair of Joy-cons.

As for games, you are already getting Mario Kart, Minecraft, and Kirby, along with what I'm guessing is Mario Odyssey, so you are mostly set on games, but I would also highly reccomend getting Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu as a bundle with the Pokéball Plus. You can also get Pokémon as a bundle with the switch. Super Smash Bros Ultimate comes out in 2 days, and will be a must have for any switch owner, but the ESRB (or whatever your country uses) is likely out of range with a T for cartoon violence.

Those are all pretty simple games, so you should be set. However, you may need to purchase Nintendo Switch Online, which is how you play online with cloud saves and stuff, and you get free games. However, you need to set up a nintendo account, but that takes less than 20 minutes.

One last thing, just DO NOT get anything that is "thrid party" hardware (any switch-compatible device, such as a tiny portable dock or projector), because they can break your switch. However, 3rd party controllers are good for use, but I perfer HORI or Power-A for my cheap controller needs.

Hopefully this can answer your questions @MrEleven1181

@MysticGengar I think Smash is a Everyone 10+
@MrEleven1181 I think Pokemon as well, maybe Mario Tennis Aces but if you want to spend time with your son then go for Super Mario Party. You don't need all of then though

@MrEleven1181 If the Mario game you couldn't remember was Super Mario Odyssey, then I'd recommend Super Mario Party. The minigames are quite simple to understand and so is the main board game mode.

As mentioned above, either Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee would be good as they are simple to understand, but harder to complete fully, so your son could come back to them in years to come.

All the games you suggested plus my suggestions can all be played with the two Joy Con the system comes with. Except for Minecraft, you can play all of these games with just one Joy Con each, so you could play too. In a few years, it might be worth getting your son a Pro Controller, but seeing as he is only 4, the Joy Con will be good for him.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am still a bit confused about the controller for the switch. Obviously is tablet mode the two controls are attached to the tablet but when playing on the tv how does it work ? Ive seen the two controllers come off the tablet so i am guessing this is what you use ? And if so do you just use one of them or both at the same time ?

The Joy Con controllers come with the system, although I still reccomend buying an extra pair. They connect wirelessly, but can be used on the switch in handheld mode. When the switch is out of the dock, they can be used attached to the switch as a tablet with a built in controller, or the switch like a mini TV where they can be used off the switch. They also charge if they a slid onto the switch while it is in the dock. They can also be clipped onto the "grip" just like they slide onto the switch to be used in a close fashion to an xbox or playstation controller, rather than a wii remote and numchuck. Each joy-con on their own can also be used as an individual controller in most games. Keep in mind, you can also use amiibo on the right stick, and they also have motion controls built into them, so you could either turn the joy-con like a steering weel or use the joystick to turn in mario kart.

Also, if you want a more bulky controller you should probobly pick up a pro controller, or the cheaper stripped down wired controller.

It is a LOT less complicated then it seems, so I hope this answers your question.

What is a good age to introduce your child to video games? Is it generally different in terms of age and types of games for a boy or a girl?

Well, back in the day, Nintendo's consoles recommended "From ages 8 to adult" on the box and nowadays they tend to have a 7+ rating, so I guess that's Nintendo's official stance. I think that's a good age for buying a console for a kid. If/when I have kids, I probably wouldn't buy them a console before they were 7, but would be fine with them playing games before that (like with one of those simple/educational Leapfrog things). As for simply introducing them to video games, well, I don't know, I guess introducing them to video games at any age where they're cognisant enough is probably OK.

@Don
I got a DS when I was 4 and a Wii later that year, so just 4 or higher is good to introduce them to games. I would say go with Mario Kart or Kirby. Both are extremly simple and easy to play and beat.

My First console was when I was around 10 and that was a Sega Master System II, I think kids shouldn't get into games until around 7ish because they are getting closed too off to the real world nowadays.
Not that I have any

@MrEleven1181 as someone with an almost three and five year old I would highly recommend Arms. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party are also good options but Arms was by far the game the eldest enjoyed the most at this age.
